    I can take it or leave it. There are times I really like it, or maybe just used to it now. Either way, it's not a deal breaker for me. I plan on retiring here in about six more years and will continue to drive what they give me.

    But compared to the earlier automatics, they have vastly improved the programming. I don't even feel it shift and you can hold a downhill gear based on throttle pressure without going to manual mode.

    I was an o/o up until '05 and had my share of triple digit 13 & 18 speed dressed out Petes. It was a lot of fun, but I learned the job is the most important thing to me and the truck is just a tool used to perform it.

    Lucky Me, I hope it works out well for you. Keep us in the loop.

    I had a 650 mile drive from Chattanooga to Glenview, IL yesterday. Plenty of room to park at the electronics store I was delivering to but in the dead of night it was TOUGH to see how I was to maneuver a big truck back to them. Traffic was light so I hit my flashers, pulled my brakes and walked it out. Much easier that way and it certainly has helped me avoid a few mistakes. After I walked it the job of getting back to the docks was easy enough. I kept my trailer sealed and bumped a dock, let security know I was there and got some sleep. At 8 this morning a guys is banging on my door. I get presentable and answer. He says if I will pull up and open the doors he will get me unloaded. Sweet. Only problem is my next load doesn't pick up until 3pm and it is forty miles away. Where do I park after that? When they got me unloaded I was told there was a walmart and a mall 2 miles away. I crept over to the walmart without starting my clock and am nestled in the back.

    Now this next load is the kind that DOES get under my skin. 3pm pick up. That means with Chicago traffic I need to leave around 2pm to make sure I am on time. Delivery is 395 miles away in Hopkinsville KY at a Walmart DC. Delivery appt is 6am. I will get there, fueling...shower...meal breaks and all...by 2 or 3 am. My 14 will expire at 5 AM eastern. Of course you cannot deliver early and cannot park at the customer. 3 truck stops at the exit a couple miles away so I will be able to park I am sure BUT that means creeping over to the DC while on my break then creeping back. Why such a huge window of time on a short load like that?

    My next thought is simply this...if this is all I have to complain about at Averitt I am very blessed. LOL

    Oh, my average over the last 4 weeks has been 2400 miles. That is all for now. I hope you get good, safe miles.

    can you explain "creep". how slow you gotta go? can you not log on as a unassigned driver?
    just trying to figure out some of the tricks of the trade.

    Not that I would ever do this, Dirt...but you can drive 2 miles without waking up your elogs. If it is 2.5 miles to the customer, theoretically you could drive 1.5 miles, pull over, hit your flashers and stop the truck for 5 minutes or so and then continue on the last mile to the customer without messing up your break.

    Hope this helps. :biggrin_25525::biggrin_25525:

    i figured it was something along this line.
    talked to the recruiter today. she said they are having trouble getting one of my previous employeers to to verify i worked there.
    apparently the company split up a couple years ago and there is no longer any records. If i can find out the name of the new company maybe they will have the records.
    hope it gets straightened out soon.

    Y'all are out there having all this fun and here I am hanging out being over fed, getting new clothes, and meeting Mr. Sasser. Be safe and I'll catch up with ya soon. Matt, you should be getting a nice bonus in the coming weeks. Just today they changed the policy and you get 50% in 2ish weeks followed by the remaining 50% at 90 days.

    Do you get to choose between the button front and the golf style shirts at orientation? I hate button front shirts. Thanks
