What are some common runs out of San Diego as a local/line haul driver? I would love being home every night or every other night but I also would like to do some actual driving. Just looking for something other then unloading cases of soda all day in a 30 mile circle, although I'll take what i could get, locally. What are some of the common linehaul runs out of there? Thanks

San Diego is somewhat unique because L.A./Ontario is just a couple hours away and most truck companies deliver to San Diego from there. And for companies located in San Diego, most head for the L.A./Ontario area to replenish their inventory nightly. There's very little warehousing/distribution in San Diego on a large scale. Much more cost effective to warehouse in Ontario and truck the product to San Diego. Then there's Tijuana, where a lot of manufacturing is going on and the product is then trucked to points north. Electronics/Hyundai trailers/Toyota Tacomas/clothing are all manufactured in TJ. Talk with any number of freight companies located in San Diego and inquire about their nightly runs to L.A. county or I.E.

Hey thanks for the replies. Nothing wrong with delivering sodas. I was just saying i would like to find a job where I get some good driving time. I worked for a vendin company doing a very similar job excet it was in a straight truck before ingot my cdl. Definately kept me in shape. Talked with many coke bulk drivers who would drop pallets at our warehouse every few days. They had good things to say. I'll check out linehaul companies around here and see what there doing.

Air freight out of the southern part of San Diego know as Otay mesa. Lot of loads going north to LAX.

With all the military bases around San Diego CA. the moving companies do real well. Also with the high cost of living here, people are coming and going all the time. So driving a truck and staying in shape with some nice weather is not out of the question.

as everyone pointed out all the ltl companies are in LA/IE, they have sysco in poway but good luck getting in with them

Living in San Diego, can you tell me if you all went through a company sponsored training? If so which ones? I looked into United Trucking but not really sure how good they are and/or what reputations they have in this industry. How difficult is to get a job living in San Diego, I'm looking for an OTR position. Any feedback will be appreciated.

San Diego CA. has a lot of big companies to choose from, but most are branch offices out of LA. Most places attached to San Diego will run about four to ten trucks. So job opportunities will be very thin. Allow Me made a lot of good points also. The big companies will be much harder to advance with than the smaller ones. Some of the best jobs in San Diego will be, driving a bobtail box van, or flatbed with a company that only operates one or two trucks. A job like that has no need for advancement other than pay scale. The down side is everyone will know right away when you make a mistake. Just the same, everyone can see and hear about what you do well. word travels fast around the city of San Diego. So one job, even if not the best, will almost always lead to a better one in San Diego. You come across the same drivers almost daily, so networking other job opportunities is not that difficult once you get rolling. Good Luck & Safe Travels !
