I took a trip to the NC DMV office yesterday and got my CDL on my afternoon break. I have the Doubles/Triples, Tankers & Hazmat endorsements.
School still won't finish up until Oct 10th. -
if i wasn't behind you -- i still need 1 qualifying run and the cdl road test -- i'd stay home tomorrow for that audit!!
-
Good point. I have a licenses, if they retest me I hope I get to pick the truck we drive in. MAN you want to talk about nerves can you imagine having those guys in the truck.

today was a good day for me. 2nd run qualified. a bit of bad news, but not really important. i heard from ApplCART in boone, nc. they're the 3rd party tester for large passenger busses with air brakes. They don't have the facility to offer tests at this time, but will soon. but no date given. i was hoping to get my passenger bus endorsement at the same time as my cdl-a "just in case." well, i doubt i'd ever have used it anyway. also, it's $250.

we're almost done. i finished all my cdl qualifying, and got the cdl-a with tanker, hazmat and doubles/triples. monday we test on the 3 backing exercises. i have good days and bad days on backing. today was a bad day, all i could do was jack it too much, lose my mirror, and pull up again and again. i think i just about got it in the dock lengthways a few times. i over correct every time -- turn too little and i'm shallow, and then try to tighten it up and by then i'm too late to get back underneath it. i KNOW i can do it, and i KNOW what to do. i just can't seem to execute it. as i said, some days are better than others. i hope monday (test day) is a good one.
as tdriver196 has said, i highly recommend dccc. -
well last day of practice today before the backing tests monday. tdriver196 is great at those, but i'm not as good. as everyone knows, setup is key. if i can setup correctly i can usually hit the mark, but today i had a rought time. i'm hoping it was last minute jitters. tdriver196 helped me a LOT on the alley back into 90 degree jackknife. thanks to him!!
so tomorrow is final classroom day, with exam, monday backing tests, and tuesday graduation. i received an offer from G&P that I accepted, so orentation in charlotte the following week. -
This will be my last post on DCCC.
"Hind-site is 20/20" I have heard it said, and looking back we have all come a very long way from that first day. We can do things with trucks that we would have thought could not be done, by us at least. And we blended pretty well as a group. If your in the Mocksville NC part of the world and looking for a truck driving school I highly recommend Davidson County Community College. Don't expect to slide thru because you won't. You will be pushed way beyond what you think you can do, but for good reason. Trust what the instructors are telling you, they really do know best and are there to make you as good as you can be in a tough, demanding and dangerous profession of truck driving.
Thanks to all the new friends I have made, some pushed me and helped me when I needed it.
101driver you will do find Monday, just drive the truck because you have the ability, just put you brain aside for that 5min and drive the course. I have had too many helping hands to mention during this class, and if I helped you at all then I was able to give some of that back. Take care and above all stay safe and smooth travels, maybe ill see you down the road somewhere.
