ive been driving for 2 years otr. i keep getting with companies that the recruter told me one thing and when i get to orientation the company dosent seem to think they have to back up the recruiters promises. i said i would never buy a truck but im starting to rethink that because im sick of people who have never been in a truck tell me my business and i dont have a leg to stand on. is buying/lease purchasing a truck something i need to look into? what are the benifits other than no force dispatch? if you had to do it again with the economy the way it is would you do a lease/buy if you had it to do all over again? grouchy
do i really want to be a o/o?

Do not do a lease purchase from a company if this is what you want to do. I lease to a company but they arent whom I bought the truck and trailer through. This way I can take my truck and trailer wherever and not get screwed over. Do some searches on here and you will get lots of info.

get your own financing outside a company and get a trailer and then find someone like BigBadBill who you can start with as an O/O....
Yeah, I am biased too. -
" im sick of people who have never been in a truck tell me my business and i dont have a leg to stand on'
Might be a legit complaint but putting everything you have saved or own on the line after only being in the business for 2 years is kind of a snap decsion. Get more experience, talk to O/O on the road and learn all the pluses and cons before jumping in financially. Some more experienced O/Ops probably have better advise than me. Good luck on what ever you do. God knows we need it !! -
To be honest, dealing with brokers/agents isn't a whole lot different than dealing with recruiters BS

Sounds like you're getting in it for the wrong reasons. Freedom is relative. This is a customer service oriented business that's very competetive. None of the reasons you state for wanting "to call the shots" really matter to customers. You go for the money wherever it takes you and deal with the same ol same ol "that's trucking" stuff along the way. A bad attitude will make things more difficult than they really have to be.

yep is real ez to go home after ya lose a tire on a company truck but say you loose a starter on a road plus a tire on your own that may mean an extra week out .....dosen;t allways feel that free but when it;s good it;s good and i never take a bus to an orientation i dont like whats said i just take my truck to the next company just sayin

If you have to ask the question then the answer is no.
But to your point on the recruiters - this is the reason that I will never hire person that is a recruiter. Only people that talk to prospective drivers are people that have to deal with the fall-out if they lie to the driver. -
Ah, but when you are dealing with brokers and agents, the power is in the drivers hands to work or not to work now. Also is his paycheck. I really am enjoying not working for any one particular person.
