I am just trying to compare to what I got when I used to do OTR back in 08. The only thing is that this time I will be doing flatbed and not van. I will be using a qualcom, and I have never had to do that before. At my last job, I ran loose leaf paper logs, so I never had to wory about time, if you know what I mean?? I made a little over 52 grand in my first year. That being said, I know Roehl is all about safe and leagal and thats a good thing...I am looking forward to getn back in the saddle again....I have been told that by going flat bed I can avoid a lot of the down town chicago bs, and having to wait in lines at docks and what not, has that been your experiance? I must say I don't miss the city traffic and trying to back in toi those docks of busy citie streets

Hahaha!!! I don't know who told you that you will avoid chicago land, but you will see it from time to time. We do have a couple local flatbedders there that run the mills and build relays for us OTR drivers. But you will see plenty of chicago none the less. Our biggest flatbed terminal is in Gary, IN. Basically chicago.

The customers we go to aren't horrible to get to, just long loading times.

Elogs vs paper can take some getting used to. You just have to be a little more conscious of your time on elogs (course shows right on screen). I am on paper at current job, but never had an issue on elogs. I actually miss them for ease of use.

Might as well rework that calculation....first day of class (09/24) we were given new pay plans which start off at .35 per mile with .02 raises at 3 and 6 months based on performance.

I never minded driveing through chicago. I just hated the drops that were in down town, thats why I don't have the earge to do van anymore....I remember one time I had a drop to do down town off Davis St. I followed the directions from the customer, and I had to make a left turn at a 4 way stop, I got half way through the turn, and realized my trailer tandoms were going to run over the hood of a car if I continued, so there I sat with traffic non stop through the intersection honking and fliping me off while I waited for the calvery to come block the intersection so I could back out slide the tandoms all thje way forward just to make the turn.....Than when I get to the customer I have to make a blind side back down into a garage type loading dock. The drop down into the dock was so low that I had to back the tractor up on 6x6 blocks to keep from snaping the landing gear of on the trailer when it dropped down into the garage.....Thats the stuff I don't miss!!:biggrin_2554:

the flatbed stuff in chicago is lots easier than that. steel mills/distribution warehouses and construction sites.

i don't mind anything about chicago except I-94.

I don't like Chicago. But I'll deal with it. I-94 isn't a huge ordeal for me anymore. Do I want to go to Chicago? No. I'll let Treeforkager play around in that.
