Because you have an engine that old and with that many miles.
Yeah, they can ask the "simple question" miles and age, but that doesn't take into account the "condition" of the engine.
I'd still rely more on sample history and all of that. -
Installing a remanufactured engine is a great idea if you have the money, I have done a few like that, they got the full deal new jakes injectors everything, install clutch and install.
I did that less than 1% of the time, 99.9% I rebuilt it. I live in the mountains of BC and we have many, S60`s that go over 1.5 million without a problem, and we pull 144.000 lbs, usually at that mileage they sell them to hay haulers, run then south, and they get well over 2 million.HARMONFREIGHT Thanks this. -
I let everyone else decide if I am having a fit over it like you did in that last post. Sure, I say what I did with my truck, for info. And if it doesn't work, then I am the one who has to deal with that and have egg all over my face. Nope, never have implied that how I did my truck was the only way to do it. If you can find a post that says that, please link it. Prima Donna? Thanks for the chuckle!

I have an 2006 freightliner that was approaching a million miles and i did an complete overhaul.#3 inframe. If you have an detroit you can save if you do it before million miles and before 10 years old on truck whichever comes first to qualify for the p3.. i paid little over 17,000 with an 2 year warranty on all parts and labor. including turbo, waterpump, egr cooler and egr vaule..

Man some of you guys get scared as soon as a truck jumps over 700k. S60 is very well known to go well over a million miles. Mine 04 has 829k on it and have no intention of doing an inframe. I have been putting off the bull gear part but I will probably do that before the end of the year. Preventative maintenance is one thing and just throwing money at it for no reason is another. If the truck shows no signs that a inframe is necessary then why plan on doing one??
Drive it till it tells you something and no this is not a plane that will fall out of a sky.G3Truks, Oscar the KW and MNdriver Thank this. -
Me thinks you missed the point regarding preventative maintenance and using aircraft maintenance as an example.
-
The person who compared trucks to plane to begin with didn't make a smart comparison from the get go. Preventative maintenance dosen't mean to keep throwing money at the truck when its not needed, esp at a s60 engine.Oscar the KW Thanks this.

I'm in the same boat really. So many repairs needed on my Detroit Diesel 60 Series 12.7 that a rebuild would solve it all, and I really don't like the idea, (and expense) of an on the road breakdown. However, coming up with $18,000 + to rebuild or replace this one is also not an option at this time. I'll just have to try and make this one last long enough for me to get the $ to do the repair correctly. Good Tread!
robbiehorn Thanks this. -
if its not using a lot of oil dont worry bout it,detroits will generally run way more than a million, just have the money put aside so you can fix it when it happens, mine has over a million, clicking right along
robbiehorn Thanks this.
