Don't feel bad, DirtyJersey. It's outfits like this that finally drove me out of trucking. Of course, now I'm looking to get back in since I can't find a job at home (not even a burger flippin' job! Even Wallyworld ain't hiring!), and I can't because the little outfits I drove for won't verify what little experience I gained with them, and I can't afford "schooling".

Outfits that will not properly maintain thier equipment should be shut down, and thier owners should be drug out into the streets and shot.

I would call the Highway patrol and ask them to send an officer to your yard and bring a straight edge to check the plate for being flat, If it is bent it has taken a lot of stress at some point to do that.

it is really bent plate. may be no cracks and no risk to loose trailer. but I'd get used fifth wheel on JY.

Pay attention that fifth wheel MUST be secured with hack bolts ore enforsed 20 mm bolts, slider ore L-bars ore plate under fifth wheel must be certified too!

really I do not want my trailer be drop on road!

There's a lot of lives on those roads in Joisey. I'd call the law on him and have a clear conscience.

do you tow just this trailer? if so it may be the plate on the trailer that is bent. i towed a water tanker w/a bent plate, it really scrubbed my 5th wheel plate down on one side .

Are you SURE the plate is bent? I've seen operated some rough equipment and never seen a bent fifth wheel. I'd lean toward the kingpin plate on the trailer warping/collapsing. That is common on old equipment.

I've never seen any inspection criteria concerning this issue of an air gap between the 5th wheel plate and the trailer, so I doubt the law would have any grounds to take action.

Are the plate pivots free to move? It appears that the gap can be front of the plate or at the rear. This would definitely affect steering control.
