Na he aint quit. Probly just busy. The bad time lease purchasing is coming up. Winter time and the holidays. Instead of getting holiday pay or some vacation pay you will be out a truck payment if you take off.

I drove for CRST Malone as a DOF Driver for owner in Trussville AL. I was reading the threads of Gravdr and i answer an ad in craiglist about a flatbed gig southeast. Happen to be CRST Malone and i had to go to orientation. I had an idea because of the comments here. What i think about this company is that they no longer are in the business of trucking. They are debt free and own everything because they sell the lease purchase trucks again and again. They sell hardware in the chains and binders, equpt. etc.. Another thing that i found out is that they bring 20 drivers every week for orientation in trussville and that is to lower the rates. Just like the cocaine in the 80s in florida. Supply and demand, more product, the cheaper it gets, supply and demand, same with the drivers, more drivers, little freight, the lower the rates. I was in Houston and a agent in houston Clinton gave me a load to North Dakota with the promised of a back load of hay to texas, a driver told me this load used to pay $6,500 up there and now is only $3,500 and somebody is keeping most of the pay and again, if you dont do it, another driver will and thats a problem i see. If you dont like it, they tell you bring my truck and here's the bus ticket.. So i went to Williston with drill pipes to black hill's trucking and waited three days in a little truck stop in town. That loves and ta are still under construction. Luckly i was just a DFO and not losing as much as the truck owner. Then no hay and the only back loads were abandoned flatbeds that other O/O left abandoned pissed off and the equiptment all over the ground. So i took two flats to eldrige IA and from there, a New York load in long island to alabama. $240 in tolls. So for the newbies, you better have a least $7,000 in the bank for down time, break down, slow week because alot of these LPS trucks can break down and the nearest shop will have time next week to even look at it! I saw a guy in South Dakota almost crying pissed off, he was sleeping in the cab of a volvo for four days because the shop had 25 clients in front of him. He was about to quit and hes wife was on her way. They talk about the box, but that box is mostly Coils and the rates for that have fallen. The fuel, you better not get lost, you have enough fuel to make it, the rest is out of your pocket. Im now buying a schneider truck through a financing company to pull containers and every day home and weekdays with $1,800 take home pay. What i like of this new company is that the owner told me, i want only two drivers because i dont want the old ones on stand by! Thats a company that cares of his drivers. Two more issues that concern me. There are Agents that have their own drivers and they give them the best loads. Another is that they call three days in advance and if you are already there, the good ol boy driver will get it. The other is somthing that an agent told me. I thought he was a CRST Agent, but he told me that Malone can not get certain loads because their insurance only covers $100,00 and if you are in a crash, you are in deep trouble. It should be minimun$700,000. Again i was a owner driver. Check your coverage. Like a old trucker said. Today Lease Purchase all it is, is buying a job. That's all you are doing. If trucking was profitable, they would own thae trucks. There are still good deals like farmers and some shippers but that 20 driver a week is a bad sign.

LoL the only relevant piece of information in your post was the have 7k in you pocket part, and maybe the Insurance bit. Who hauls a load into a dead area on a promise of a back haul from your post I gather at least 2 other steering wheel holders did. the Volvo guy well now Volvo says it all, Long Island to bama 240 in tolls yep but you should have known that when you booked it and had that figured in to your rate.

There's a lot of relevant information in his post. Like it or not, lease operator companies are all getting to be like this. In fact, most trucking companies are like this.
I'm sure most company drivers think that $750 a week is a decent week. A L/O probably thinks that $1,500 bring home a week is also a decent week.

When I started driving, about 11 years ago, I was a company driver. And would bring home, after taxes and everything else, over a $1,000 almost every week.
In the past year (as a lease o/o), pulling a dry van, I was lucky to bring home $1,100. And still had to pay taxes, break downs etc etc etc.......

I was on with Malone for several years and always did ok But I had my own truck and Trailer besides that they do not GIVE you a load you TAKE It as in accept the load they have good agents and bad agenbts just like all the other outfits. The guys that have the least amounts of troubles all seem to do great Now I will say that CRST-Malone is not always honest but you have a lot of freedom problem is most so called truckers today can not handle the freedom

My son is gonna go on with what I believe to be a great outfit,we met with them this week and I think if he listens to them he will do just fine It has all been handed to him only problem I see is he aquired a girl friend and with him only being 21 it could be a disaster. My hope is he can keep business and pleasure in balance . The man told him he has to do as he is told up front I like that and I believe my son could learn a great deal from these people and maybe stay there 40 couple years. I was impressed with what I saw and heard, now it is all up to the boy
