Or you could drop the trailer somewhere sneaky and bobtail home like I do.
(cept my sneaky spot is Roehls Jacksonville drop yard)

I drop my trailer at a customers drop yard or the Tomahawk TS on I70 just east of Denver. If I drop it at the TS, I put the kingpin lock on, the trailer door lock on and a gladhand lock I bought on also. I do that because I know a guy who had a kingpin lock on and the tow truck just put two big hooks under the front corners of the trailer and hooked an airline to it to release the brakes and away he went with the trailer. I figure if someone wants to tow the trailer, they will figure out a way to do it, I just want to make it as hard as possible for them.
Then I bobtail to my house.
I did be sure to tell my FM what I'm doing so that if anything happens, my ### is sort-of covered because I told my FM and he said it was OK. -
Got my DOT physical on Monday for Roehl. Any trainers on here want a student here I am LOL. I really wanted to run reefer or flat bed but they only hire vans around my house in the Daytona- Orlando area. Question... How much NYC/ NJ area do they run. I have horrorible memories from Covenant of getting down town on a receiver who had the smallest entrance I have ever seen. My trainer was asleep in the bunk. Covenant oh Covenant. That was back in 2005 maybe things have changed? Lol probably not! Also what kind of truck is Roehl issuing their National van drivers out of FL? Didn't know if they used something special for each division. Oh one more what is the average life span mileage of the trucks?

I'm from Hawthorne, Florida. So not far from ya, I went to new England every other trip out. Usually picking up from GP in palatka going to a Walmart DC in Maine. Its not bad.
I'm willing to bet covenant hasn't changed
Roehl has 2011-2013 prostars and cascadias, still a few 2007 Columbia's around.
Average selling point is 700,000 miles. Roehl may tell you 600 but most of the guys in an '07 have 600,000+. Mine had 720,000 before it got sold.

hey Traumadrew, to hear Lantern and Drty Diesel tell it, Flats are the only way to fly, the money is better w/trap pay and lots of freight, miles are steady as well. and I'm glad you enjoyed the long pot from a few weeks back, I was trying to get some trainers to get on here and talk a little. didn't work thou.
DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
What's up buddy. Yea I know flats were the way to go but not in my area. Fl is a little weak in the freight industry but I'm happy I have the opportunity to work with a company that will allow me to see my wife. I've said it before and i'll say it again. This is a whole new lifestyle. I'm excited to learn from you and others. I want to be good at this. This forum has become my new addiction and I really hope to meet everyone on here to thank them personally for their input!
DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
I'm sure Diesel and Lantern live in Fl. they may have started out in a van and switched to flat bed. you might have to ask one of them how to handle the switch and how long they had to run vans before they could make the move to flats.
DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
No, I wish it was. This is my baby. I took this today at a scenic overlook in Oregon. I'm on my first trip west.
I do like flats, the tarp pay is worth the work.
Lantern and me pulled van for about 6 months then switched. I stay out about 3 weeks then go home for 5 days. Lantern is usually out 14 days and goes home for 3-4 days.
Yeah I just asked my FM, he gave me the number to the guy over flat division in marshfield. I talked to him and within two hours of me asking to switch to flats I had a new FM and a load going to gary Indiana to do flatbed training.
