Says who?? My load Monday is from APM in portsmouth,VA to Asheboro,NC........8,000lb load of couches and coming back empty. The pay is $762 and a FSC of 36% of the linehaul rate which equals $274.32, which will cover almost ALL my fuel except for $30!!
I get 70% of $762 and 100% of the FSC so I'll make $807.72 and after fuel it'll be $507.72.........not bad for hauling old cheap containers around and still be home every night...............
I just don't understand why guys choose to run for mileage pay companies?? My best friend works at First Coast Logistics in Atlanta on the same pay structure as me. He loads in Rome,Ga and takes it to the port in Jacksonville,FL and come back empty, it pays him $835.38 and a FSC of $429.62, which covers everything but maybe $100 of his fuel!!!
interested in pulling containers in the Atlanta area any info on good companies

JB hunt isnt always double loaded i do loads for them down here in miami, and i never double load, crap sometimes i even drop and hook more often, then have to get unloadad inless its a large DC
-
hey guys thanks for all the info, i have a few container companies that i never heard of in Atlanta till i came on here and i will deffinately be checking them out to weigh my options but i still hear alot of negative remarks about the intermodal buisness on other threads as well as good ones so whats so bad about hauling containers, the pay seem to be decent for the most part and your home most nites so whats the problem is it the long hours are the waiting time at the ports or rail yards or what
-
Heavy as hell... And cheap tires on the chassis that blow out quick.. Chassis malfunctioning and crap too much work for this small check..
-
LOL oh i see but it seems if the freight is heavier and ur getting paid a percentage of the load that you should make more money and is better to work on percentage pay or mileage pay
-
I wish i could get paid by the hour.. But it's tearing your truck up in the long run....
-
just because the freight is heavier does not mean its gonna pay more. million dollor medical loads that weigh 16,000 pnds can pay better than 42,000 lbs of machenery. and is precentage pay better than mieage thats the age old question. personally in my opinion they avaerage out to be about the same pay wise. some you win on some you loose on.
-
Wit contaniers it depends on the steamship line.. There could be a APL load paying 168 same place take a Hanjin Cosco Mersek I bet it pays at least 10 dollars more..
-
oh ok i see, so is there a slow season for containers and if so what time of year? and i'm buying my truck out right so no truck not but even if i had a truck note could i make a decent profit hauling containers around the Atlanta area
