Y'know, it's no secret you've got an ax to grind, and that's fine...it's your right. While I'm still at Crete, I'm hardly a "rah-rah" type (you can check the Crete thread in the 'Favorite truck company' category....you'll see my true feelings, good and bad).
But I sincerely doubt you "wasted 13 years". Sounds like the last six months were a waste. And I can see that. I was on the verge of departure until I got a new, experienced AM just last week. We've spoken about the issues I've been having, and I do have reason for optimism. At least I've got to give her a chance.
But if you feel you wasted all 13 years there, that's YOUR fault, NOT Crete's. Six months? One year? OK. Give ya that.
Not 13 years, though.

There's your mistake right there, you told Crete you was spending a day at home.Sometimes you have to keep quiet.Companies hide everything from drivers
-
I wouldn't say I have an axe to grind , because I have left crete, I would say before I got an asset manager I was fairlly happy thereimwhen I have have to complain about losing around 1000 miles a week due to an asset manager, and nothing is done about it you just get tired of talking to the wall ,
-
I never told them , they tracked me on the satellite and seen I was home for a day
-
Can't blame you there. As I said, I was all but gone until last week. In addition, we got the explanation about being shown "at home" when we run through or within a certain distance of our home 20. I guess a lot of companies have this "problem", as I've seldom been close to the house while in the midst of my 21 days, or whatever it happens to be. I think a good AM should be able to take care of that issue.
One of my biggest peeves is that companies are scared to let seasoned, veteran drivers get anywhere close to home because of the fear of a late load, or worse. But I believe that if drivers were dealt with as individuals and not "en masse", as it were, companies would have a lot more happy drivers. The opposing argument is that "driver, you can run regional or local". True enough. But getting through the house to see family, pick up meds, or just for the sake of familiarity would do wonders for many drivers, self included.
I don't think you're being unreasonable, db....just wonder what might have happened if you had hung in there a bit longer. I believe a bunch of employees were pressed into service as AMs without sufficient training, then allowed to struggle and fail. Kind of the "throw a pile of crap against the wall and see what (or who) sticks" method of filling positions.
Helluva way to run a business.dawnio Thanks this. -
When I started there in 99, there was not a better place to work, until 2007, the ceo , has methodically changed everything that was great about working there.and I mean everything ,getting.great miles and taking a load home never use to be an issue, plus its good for morale, in the past I was treated like part of the family iif I thought it Was going to improve , I would have stuck aroundI seen you on a poly post, which if things don't get better for you ,I would head over thereI don't have an axe to grind, I have a very nice job ,I'm just pointing out to people that have not been with them long , what they were *and what they are evolving intoAnd I don't foresee them doing much of anything good for the driver

I had considered Poly, but I've pretty well decided that, barring any more unusual twists in the lives of my wife and I, this will be my last OTR position. Next job will either be one where I get home every weekend or something like fuel hauling, where I'm home daily or almost daily. But as long as my new AM fulfills my needs as a driver, I'll hang on here until such time I find the position I'm looking for. I'll be 52 in November, and I never had the intention of being OTR until I retired or died in the first place. I'm thinking by the time I'm 55 I'll be done with OTR.
-
Good luck to you, but I will say about poly is they seem very good about getting a driver home ,and the time you can take off is the best I have ever seen ,they have programs in place that seem to make there drivers very happy, the pay is better , and they have good miles, it may be worth a try!
