1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

I think Intrastate is all you can do, at least until you turn 21. You may be able to talk to a dump truck co, and see if they can get you working.

You'd be suprised, a lot of those dump truck cos run some crappy equipment, and have crazy long hours. SO much so that the older drivers (with all the experience) pass over them, leaving those jobs open for noobs. You'd have to check around, but it is possible.

Try some of the local feed stores--the ones that deliver the minerals to the farms. You might even try some of the companies that deliver the chemicals to the farm (anhydrous, round-up, etc). The local feed store would probably require a class B CDL or chauffeur's license--I'm not sure how they're regulated with having a large tank and low weight limit. It might require a class A, but seeing as you were involved in farming, these companies are the most likely to understand how much skill you get driving for a farm.

I know if the truck is plated for farm use you are almost exempt from about everything i mean they let us haul 2 tanks of anhydrous ammonia in a beat up old truck......and truck drivers have to have back ground checks and funny endorsements on their licences lol

Actually, as far as HazMat, farmers have to follow the same rules. I believe because the tanks aren't over 1000 gallons, we can get away with it. There's all kinds of nitpicking rules, but when it comes to HazMat, even farmers need the endorsements--at least in MI.
