I got my CDL about 30 days ago. I was told by an acquaintance who has a Trucking Co that if I go back home to Chicago and get an Illinois CDL he would hire me because the Insurance Co would not know how long I've had my CDL. He said he would tell them that I have been driving for a few years and had to update my CDL.
Is he right?

The insurance company would probably request your DL # and run their own check. They could find out.

your driving record tells dates of when you got your permit and license... insurance will find out

Thanks for the replies............"Even if your driving record doesn't go onto your new MVR directly your driving record will still follow you. Insurance companies and employers will see that your driver's license was recently obtained in your new state so will check your previous state's driving record".

This type of "carrier" is not someone you'd want to drive for. It's not a matter of IF he goes by the wayside, it's a matter of when. "Acquaintance" or not, driving for a smallish carrier who sidesteps the hiring process rules and standards is a problem waiting to happen. And when he does close the doors (or have them shut for him), you can forget about getting any sort of employer reference that means anything as you're trying to move on. Beginning a driving career at a small outfit has a few advantages, but it's DISadvantages that typically crop up when you least expect them and are out of your control, are far more numerous.
