    Well, just a quick update:

Had to do three different physicals (VA, Group Health, DOT) to get past the fact my VA disability rating does not hinder me from doing the job of a truck driver. Now I have to complete a week on my NEW CPAP machine and send the results to the Medical team at Schneider. Once they see that I am compliant with my usage over a week, they are "Suppose" to send me for ANOTHER DOT physical by one of thier approved clinics.

I am learning patience is deffinantly a virtue, and that all things happen for a reason. I did not think I had anymore issues with Sleep Apnea since the surgery in 1995. Well I do, though not as bad. So had I not gone through all this, I would never have had found out that I am once more being effected. That alone is a good thing to find out. Means better sleep in the long run, and my being a safer driver.

Just a note of wisdom, if you are planning on becoming a driver, and you "THINK" you may have or have long ago been diagnosed with sleep apnea, get it checked out BEFORE you begin the steps. Most if not all companies will not hold that you have it against you, they simply want to be sure you are taken care of. In fact, a lot of companies allow longer idle times, install converters, or even APUs for those with sleep apnea. I cannot stress enough that you get yourself checked out, it will save you a considerable amount of time and stress in the long run.

Be sure to have your Sleep Study results beforehand. Most clinics do not keep records past 10 years.

Let me ask you Schneider guys a question...I live in Virginia and when I asked the recruiter how much of the Lower 48 and especially the West I'd get to see in the national dry van division, I didn't get much of a straight answer. Anybody have any insight into this?

From my experience, and what I was told (I'm out of Green Bay) is that as an OTR driver, I will not see the West because runs from the Midwest to West are mostly reserved for teams. However, if I wanted to stay out longer than 2 weeks, and told them I wanted to go out west, they'd hook me up (probably with a run that started from Texas).

As a OTR driver who has not wanted to stay out for longer than 2 weeks, and has not requested to go out West, the furthest I've been is Denver.

Hey FemaleDriver, thanks for the input! That's one of the reasons I'm considering Central Refrigeration out of Salt Lake City. But another question(s) re: Schneider...how was the training? The recruiter indicated one week in Charlotte and one week with a trainer and testing on the 3rd week. Also, does Schneider use APUs, EPUs, Inverters or are you able to idle as needed?

    Thanks again!

Training was great. Unlike most outfits, where you're out with a trainer for weeks on end, you're in and out. As for all APUs, inverters and such, no such luck. As far as idling goes, they just started putting in devices that will make it so you can't idle between 20-70 degrees. There's a bunch of us whining about this new device on the forum in the "Schneider Chat Room" thread, and some other thread.

Had this been a month ago, I'd recommend SNI. Currently, I think you probably ought to really look harder at some other outfits first.

    Nottoway Thanks this.

Wow! I see why ya'll are upset. I'm afraid this is just further evidence of the state of the economy in general and the trucking industry in particular.

Thanks for the honest opinion and straight talk!
