A friend of mine told me, he is using grease in the st. axle with no problem. I have to change the bearings anyway, so I think of switching to grease. What do you think. Is it a bad idea, and shall I use syntethic grease if I decide to switch. It is Meritor axle.
Thanks. Nick

They both work, but oil will be more risky. It could get on your brake pads.

I've been in this busness for 40 years and have never heard of a (srearing axle) is that a tag axle?
-
I was thinking he meant ' STEERING ' axle. Took a while to figure it out.

In the last few minutes the clutch pedal was acting strange. When I press it half way I felt slight bumps or I should say vibrations. After that they disappeared, but I was not able to push it all the way to the floor and I couldn't put it in gear. I killed the engine ,put it in first gear and start it again. The truck start moving normally, I shifted gears like I do normally. There was no slipping or grinding.Looks like it is time for a new clutch. It might be only a yoke problem. I will open the inspection hole tommorow to see if I can see something unusual. Anybody has a clue?

Do you mean, putting grease into an oil bath hub?
-
Yes, I switched my trailer axles to grease 2 years ago. No problem. Leaking seals is a thing of the past.
-
Use oil bath seals for oil, and grease pack seals for grease.
-
Yes definetly use the correct seals. I have worked on equipment using grease pack and others using oil bath. I wouldnt change whatever came from the manufacture. When done correctly either will last fine.
