Thought I'd post Central's WorkWell physical requirements that I've copied directly off their document:
If you take medications for Blood pressure please make sure you are up on the dosage of medications for the physical and Work Well will test for blood pressure and blood pressure disqualifies the majority of physicals and Work Well mainly because the applicant is not taking the medications properly beforehand. Eat healthy and avoid caffeinated beverages and smoking. If you do have high blood pressure it is wise to be tested from a doctor or even a free testing at pharmacies or grocery stores. Your blood pressure must not exceed 180/110.
Work Well is an exam that ensures you are able to meet our job requirements. You will be performing an exam that represents the job requirements. You will need to perform the following to qualify:
· Ability to lift a series of reps consisting of 25 lbs, 50 lbs, & 75 lbs from floor to waist
· Ability to lift a series of reps consisting of 20 lbs, 35 lbs, & 50 lbs from waist to crown
· Ability to carry a series of reps consisting of 25 lbs, 50 lbs, & 75 lbs for the length of 53'
· Ability to pull 100 lbs
· Ability to push 100 lbs
· Ability to step up and down 24" for 5 reps
· All of the exam must be performed with a satisfactory Blood Pressure and Heart Rate accompanied with proper safe body mechanics.

That lift from floor to waist (at least when I did it) consisted of weights in a milk crate... I had to squat over it and lift... I had practiced in a gym with weights on a bar... Totally different!! They are looking for body mechanics... Straight back and lifting with your legs... Also CAN you lift it... The bar weights, I did fine with... That squat lift .... Oy my legs hurt that evening!!Nottoway Thanks this.

Hey LadyK, describe those other lifts...please! I stopped by Walmart's sporting goods section this morning, picked up a 25# dumb bell in each hand, brought them to my shoulders, then extended my arms straight overhead. That was a piece of cake. But, do you use a milk crate for the actual overhead test? How about the 53'carry test... milk crate there too?
Thanks!! -
Is there any Missouri drivers at Central? How is the freight in Missouri? i am concidering going to Central any information will be appreciated. thank you all

Yep... Milk crate for them all... For the 'overhead' it's to eye level... They have you place the crate on a shelf.. Same with the carry, the weights in a crate... Now this was in Fontana, CA. It might be different in the details at the different terminals. It was also two years ago for me... You will also need to be able to step up on the second or third step of a ladder... To simulate having to get up in the back of a trailer... Also bending and squatting... Figure having to deal with the tandems. Tere is also a push / pull test. There is a gauge hooked to the wall with a handle... You have to be able to pull it with 100 pounds of pressure and push it with 100 pounds of pressure. My pull was fine, but my push was weak... LOL... S the old instructor leaned on my back as I was doing it, so I made it

Lady K speaks the truth...same test and milk crate use in Utah (West Valley)...I just did the work well test on Monday 10/1. Mechanics...yes - they want you to lift with your legs, not your back. The waist lift is lifting the milk crate (with the weights inside) to a shelf. For the 'crown' lift, lifting from the waist high shelf to a shelf about eye level. Also, only two weights, I think 50 and then 75. The walking 53' is also with milk crate and the two weights. The ladder step is to the 2nd step, and yes, you can hold on to the ladder to make the step. The push/pull as Lady K describes.
In the end, they really do want you to be able to pass the test...unless they can see that you really 'can't' do it.Nottoway Thanks this. -
Great information/explanation/description of the WorkWell tests guys. I think it will be very helpful and informative to all those considering or planning to go with Central! THANKS!

work well is the same in conley. We had some really out of shape guys, but everyone passed. It's not too bad.

Starting in Fontana this Monday. Going in with a positive attitude. Not expecting any handouts. I will work hard and do my very best. I will get out of it, only what I put into it. Let's GetterDone!
