Hi all. I currently drive for USX. (ya ya I know big mistake). I'm seriously considering coming over to roehl. I've been with USX for 5 months now and I don't think I can take much more of their BS. I run team OTR right now and we get good miles and run pretty good but home time is a major issue with USX. We stay out a minimum of 4 weeks and go home for 4 days. But getting home is the problem. Right now I'm at our terminal in shippensburg which is 4 hrs away from my house. We've been out for 6 weeks and we are only asking for 3 days home and they can't and don't seem to be trying to get us home. They won't let us bobtail either. They have been trying to get us to run a load to CA I keep telling them no because I'm supposed to be home tomorrow morning. Now if I was single I wouldn't care but my fiancé is pregnant and we have the ultrasound Friday morning to find out what the sex of the baby is and I've missed all other ultrasounds and really don't want to miss this one. I told them a month ago I needed to be home for this and reminded them daily for over a week. They still can't tell us if they are gonna get us a load home for tomorrow. I'm at my wits end with this company. It happens EVERYTIME I wanna go home. These people just don't care. I get reminded that they don't need to get us home on time that they will get us home when it's feasible for them. Are you kidding me?
So my questions is...how is roehl with getting you guys home? I've heard roehl really takes care of their drivers and makes a effort to keep you happy. I would be coming on driving dry van and live right outside Albany NY.
Dry van guys get good miles and what kind of pay would I be looking at? And what is the home time schedule? With USX it's one day home for every week your out.
And since I have 5 months experience does that mean I would join roehl as a experienced driver or would they still consider me a student?
Thanks for any help you guys can give me. I'm real frustrated and really need some help lol
Thinking about joining the roehl team

I can answer one of your questions. Pay tables are available here: http://www.goroehl.com/inexperiencedDriver/app/compensation/tables.aspx

There's home time fleets of 7/4, 7/3, 14/7 depending how far you are from a drop yard or terminal. Albany I'm not sure that we have any over there, but national fleet where you don't slip seat and have your own truck to take home with you is 11/3, 18/4, 25/6 and a month is 7 days off. I do 11/3 and if I want to stay out longer I go 18/4. Home time fleet I got home a day or two late and national that I'm on now I get home on time most if the time. Just depends really but never hold you out longer than weeks when you schedule to be off ever in my almost my 1 year with them. There was a guy in the experienced class in my orientation he had 6 months plus your currently OTR driver so I would imagine you would be in the experienced class. It's like 3 days and not sure with a trainer but not 9 days like most students do. Pay I couldn't tell you I started fresh out at .30 cpm you might get .32 cpm somewhere around there. You'd have to call and talk to a recruiter pay could be different than what I stated and they just started a new pay plan oct 1st. Home time and getting home for sure is better, about the same equipment with cascadias, kenworth, and prostars and a few late model Columbia's getting swapped out for new trucks. Probably wont do much west coast either mostly east, Midwest and southeast. I have hauled freight out of Albany ny as well. Good luck like I said call and see about the specifics.

Coopnp I appreciate it! I really like the sound of 11/3 home time! That would make my life a hell of alot easier! Do you need a passport or enhanced license to work for roehl? I read something about it someplace but just wondering if it's a for sure thing. Thanks again for the help!

Welcome they tell you to get one and all that but I don't want to do Canada ever so really it's your choice. Some do some don't depends on you. They'll tell you you get $50 going in and $50 going out and the miles could be good but still not worth it for me. Some people like it though. Same thing with hazmat we don't haul much of it but some people have it and some don't. Enhanced license idk what that is hope I answered you question. And with the home time it's easier to plan your schedule around the days you go out to set up days off rather than relying on freight to get you home. But if nothing is available and you have to be home for something important as long as its not too far they'll just let u go.

Ok thanks. I don't have a passport so that was a big deal. Enhanced drivers licenses are available in NY and I think a few other bordering states. It just let's you get into Canada instead of having a passport. I have my hazmat and haul quite a bit of it at USX so if roehl needs it done that's no problem. I try setting things up in the middle towards the end of home time. This time I just have alot of things to do every day lol

Oh ok yeah Roehl will say bring the stuff to apply for one at orientation but me and a few others skipped around it. Then my training fm said to get one and I didn't bother and never have been asked since to do so. It's not mandatory so I wouldn't stress about it. Orientation classes fill up also so keep that in mind as well. Out of school I waited two weeks before I got in. I'd call and check it out see what they have to say then tell them you'll call back when if it sounds good to make the switch.

If hometime is important to you, Roehl is the company to drive for! I rarely miss getting home when I'm supposed to and if I do it's only by a day or so. I came to Roehl with 3 months experience and I had orientation and 4 days with a trainer to learn how Roehl did things. That was in 2006, so I don't know exactly what they are doing now.

home time at roehl is much better and much easier than it apparently is with you, adk. i train, so my hometime has to work around keeping a student in my truck for at least 8 days, but i work with my fleet manager, and i get home around when i need to. plus, if i ask for a specific date far enough in advance, then it happens that way, period. i've never had a problem with that. ever.

Sky viper 73, got my transportation taken care of from Madison to Marshfield, thanks for your tip.
Sure would enjoy go up with ya in a plane, however I'm not current. I've flown 140's 172's 180's, and a bit in 310's.Last edited: Oct 5, 2012
