    MysticHZ----So at 5500 miles a week ( team ) 7 days .81 per mile ( after taking out the maintenance fee ) = $4450.00 , take away truck payment of $ 800.00 a week = $ 3650 pay for a week ... fuel at $4.00 a gal - .46 = $ 3.54 a gal ... At 6.5 mpg and having run 5500 miles one would use up 846 gal's at a cost of -- $3011.76 = take home pay of ! $ 638.24 ?

I think that you are figuring wrong. Take your 5500 miles per week x .82 = 4510 - truck payment of $800 = 3710. Now subtract your fuel $2933 = $790. Now add your FSC, 5500 miles at .46 = 2530 =$790. Does that look a little better. Do not forget, after your security deposits are paid, that will also be an extra in the check, and your truck payment will be about $702. You might want to figure your fuel at about 7.5mpg

Take this for what its worth. I'm driving with a mentor and he has shown me his weekly settlements. He runs a dedicated account and is home every Friday through Sunday morning. Last week, after truck payment, fuel, .10 maintenance account deduction, and his income tax withholding (he holds out 30 percent!), his deposit was 1900 dollars. This week was 2400, 3300 before his tax withholding. He doesn't make any money during the first fifty hours mentoring, but makes up for it the remaining 5 or six weeks. He also receives a check periodically for the miles his students run for the first six months solo, sometimes as much as 1500 dollars. He has no intention of paying off a balloon at the end of his lease, just likes the extra freedom and having a new truck. These numbers are similar to others I have talked to on this dedicated account and not an exception. Contrary to what some people say, you can make very good money at Swift if you're savvy enough. I didn't believe it either until I saw it with my own eyes. Hard to believe that there are 17,000 drivers at Swift not making money, don't ya' think?

skip ...squeak clarified it a little better ... the surcharge is additional revenue per mile. Some people try to back if off thier fuel cost to get to thier net, I just consider it revenue.

One thing I will disagree with squeak on is your mpg bogie. You may get 7 or even 7.5. But, you have to account for all your fuel expense, not just fuel cost for you paid miles. I use a 6 mpg on paid miles for business planning, but I run 7.5.

You got the right idea though skip, you need to lay out all the numbers, buld your business model, implemnt you plan, measure actuals against the plan, th make adjustments

Which brings me to XkorpseX ... my first question is, did you do a business plan? Are you analyzing your results against your plan?

Disagree with me!!! How dare you. HEHE.

Skip, in answer to your question, I have the Pilot/FlyingJ and Petro/TA. I pay $300 per year total, and when in their lot, unlimited down load. When not, I have the Verizon USB.
