Right now, it is slow in Red Deer. Trican is on hiring freeze. Sanjel is also not hiring, at least the greens. I am enrolling for class 1 and see if I can get my license.

Contrary to what I read, things are really slow. Even those who really want to hire are playing the waiting game.I met a really nice guy who has been in oil for the last 30 years. He says it will get better but everyone just has to wait.

I have a 100 bbl water truck looking for work. My brother inlaw has been doing ice roads, chasing rigs, and summer dust control for other owners. He has experience and we are just starting out with our own truck. I have a full time job in Kamloops I have been at for 31 years so he will be the operator. Any help you can give us would be appreciated. Thanks

I asked management today, they said its going to be slow the next couple months. The price of gas coupled with a pricing war going on within service companies is what is driving our slowdown. It will get better, just a waiting game right now.

There are numerous fluid hauling companies looking for Owner Ops in the Lloydminster/Wainwright/Macklin/Unity area at the moment.
However you will have to rig up your truck with a Roda (Positive air shutdown with rev guard), 30LB ABC Fire Extinguisher, 2 way PTO, and product pump.
If you go brand new, expect to drop 12-15 grand with a straight PTO and shaft drive pump, if you decide to go hydraulics, its 25K but you can move the skid from this truck to your next truck very easily. I decided to go with hydraulics on my last 3 rig ups and try that instead of PTO rig up.

You can find used equipment on Kijiji, but buyer beware, you get what you pay for, and when its your livlihood saving 4K can be blown on repair bills/downtime in a matter of days, and alot of shops won't let you drop a truck load of parts off and say, "Make it work" and pick it up in a week rigged up ready to go. Or if they do, the warranty will be 50' or 5 minutes, your choice.. LOL

Some outfits I have heard are hiring owner ops are :

    Silverman
    Goulet Trucking
    Sundown Oil
    Dow Trucking
    Plains Midstream (Long haul available)
    Gibsons (Long haul available)

I will not comment on the first part of that post but in this list gibsons and plains are plain crappy choices for an owner op coming into the oilfield. Plains in particular has many runs that you can't even break even on and a 90 day pay scheme that keeps new blood running them at a loss in perpetuity.
I don't think it is in any way wise to take your truck on with a company until you have worked with or around them long enough to know what your dealing with!

    Chain Drive Thanks this.
