I think that your arguement is not with Swift by with the industry in general and the way it pays its drivers. Believe me, I don't think any driver gets paid what they are worth although I know a few that get paid far more than they are worth ;). In The USA, you are free to choose your employment. It's not a secret what drivers are paid or how companies treat them. Message boards like this show its no secret. if you still decide to enter into a contract and are paid like a truck driver then it is your fault for doing so and no one elses.

I believe that most trucking companies pay their employees a fair and legal wage. However, there have been documented cases of companies that clearly have not. My argument applies to the latter only...

Fortunately for the slightly stupid and just plain ignorant, we have labor laws that ultimately protect people from their own idiocy. Nobody loves freedom and hates bureaucracy/big brother and the like more than I do, but the fact remains that even if somebody is stupid enough to sign in to something against their own best interests, they cannot be forced to follow through if what they agreed to happens to also be ILLEGAL...

Contrary to what many think of me, I don't discriminate against legal or even illegal Mexican immigrants. In fact, I agree that most of them are hard working and simply come here looking for a better life. Thats not to say I agree with open borders, not by a long shot. And if they're here they should always learn to speak the language... but thats a discussion for another day. Many, if not most all of the illegals, work for below the state and federal minimum wage. WAY BELOW. Now, thats all fine and dandy if I hire them under the table and pay them cash after a long days work, but if I take these same young men and women and attempt to bind them in to a legal contract, I'd better make #### sure everything I've written up is in accordance with the law. If I'm ignorant enough to draw up a contract that does not meet the basic guidelines of both state and federal labor laws, then quite frankly I deserve to lose that labor and possibly even pay a penalty as well. Personal responsiblity goes BOTH ways, and I'm proud to live in a county that recognizes equality in that responsibilty across the board...

Any company that hires illegal aliens should be immediately shut down and every one of the officers put in jail. All of the illegals should be rounded up and deported. Their presence here is evidence that they have broken the law. period.

I'd be curious to know how many other businesses require employees to re-pay them for their training? I know of none.
All employers should pay for their own employees training and stop begging the governments for welfare and to train their workers for them. Corporate welfare beggars.
Besides if your federal law says they can't take your last pay check then it is an illegal contract in the first place - null & void. Get yo monies back

Good luck with that one, driver. Not as long as either of the two major parties have control around here. And my argument still stands; You can hire anyone you want to. If they happen to be illegal, thats a risk you're taking. And as long as you're not involving the courts, that decision is essentially between you, the illegal and God. If you happen to get caught by the law man, sucks for you. You deserved it. When, however, you draw up a legal contract with your workers that violates state or federal law, you cannot expect said workers to have to follow through on it regardless or whether or not the dummies signed their name on it. Legal or otherwise, and whether we agree or not (or moreover, whether it contradicts an illegal status all together), labor laws protect all workers. At least in this state anyway.... That I guess was my original point.

I said what should happen not what will happen. Both political parties are feckless, spineless cowards.
