Tires for Spread Axle Trailer

Our michelin xza3 casings with michelin mtr (retreads) in xze-sa pattern. Hands down the best recap we've worked with. Xza3 come with 2 recap warranty and and 700,000 miles. A bit expensive on front end, but worth it.

 

Don't buy Yokohama tires!!! The tread peels off them! I have noticed it trailers that my company has. It looks like somebody dragged the trailer down the road.
They are garbage.

 

My Fontaine came with a spread and Yokohamas. After 2 years, they are still looking good and I jack the crap out of it at times. I do have a rear axle dump.
I have run a lot of caps, with no problem. Bandag has a cap that works very well on a spread. It has a very rounded shoulder. Stay away from deep tread, on a trailer. Deep tread squiggles and promotes river wear. This is why Bridgestone developed the low tread, trailer tire, back in the 80s. Lower tread, on a free rolling tire, actually lasts longer than a deep tread.

 

I had good luck with my MRT caps on my flats, but on my step I use Bstone 250ed or Mich XZE virgins.

Dunlop SP 160's and Kelly KTSA's are my favorite. Just bought 8 SP 160's at a Wingfoot in Hesperia for $3115 out the door with 4 bald KTSA's and 4 bald SP 160's as trade.

 

I bought yokohamas for my 53 ft slider spread stepdeck and they are doing great. I also like BF goodrich. I wont put recaps on at all on that trailer and I keep the trailer tires at 110 psi

 

I've blown 1 cap in 12 years and that was a casing failure. I only use my own casings.

 

I love my Yoko's as well!! I haven't had any issues and run at 110 psi as well. I got the Yoko's because they were on sale, but now I wouldn't run anything else on my spread axle.
