    Just pulled into my destination.

A drunk headed westbound fixated on my headlight in a curve and crossed into my lane.

I brakes and took as much of the shoulder as I could. Luckily there was no accident.

If there had, in the morning you'd be reading of a fatal headon car / truck accident.

Further proof that you can never get complacent on the road.

I have NEVER been that close to an accident before.

Not to question your serious close call but how do you know the other driver was drunk? My point is, every oncoming car has the possibility of being somehow distracted or perhaps affected adversely by prescription/non prescription drugs. All it takes is one moment at one particular meeting point. So I guess what I'm saying is when you spend 60 hours a week driving in all sorts of conditions amongst all sorts of drivers, good and bad, we have to always drive defensively. Also helps to try and live right, do well by others, and unless you're an atheist, keep whatever God you pray to close to you at all times and make sure your loved ones know how you feel because driving accidents/incidents always happens in a moment, and when you least expected it.

    Stexan,

A drunk will fixate on your headlights. He was driving straight to mine.

It went by SO SLOW it seemed like it wouldn't happen.

Actually, impaired drivers...alcohol, drugs, prescriptions mixed with alcohol...will usually fixate, or become mesmerized by flashing and/or blinking lights before solid beams. If this event happened in a curve (his/her beginning of a curve) the odds are better the driver was fighting fatigue rather than intoxicated/impaired.

Either way...glad you weren't one of the "new statistics"! One year ago I was the lucky recipient of the "suicide by big truck" statistic.....not easy to get over that! It definitely will make you even more aware of what is coming at you especially at night.

Glad your OK and in one piece!

Few years ago cruising down the highway middle.of the day car coming towards me gets further and further into my lane. I think they will move they will move. Couldnt see the driver looked lkke she was getting something from the passenger seat. So i hit the shoulder hard lucky for me it was a big one. Her drivers side mirror hit my fender and went through her window. Pretty sure she didnt see me till that mirror broke her window. I stopped she didnt. She called it in later and said i crossed the line. I had a county maintainer right behind me see the whole thing. But i thought i just spared your life and you blame me. Real classy.
