I have a tri-axle dump tuck and the lift axle is slow to move. I put a new cab switch in and both quick releases. The regulator is set to 60 psi. The reason I replaced these parts was because when I would flip the switch it would be slow to come up. Now it seems I screwed myself. I was thinking it is possible that I got a bad switch because when I am driving down the road I can hear air pulsating out of the exhaust of the switch that matches bumps in the road.
Any ideas?

Reinstall your old switch for testing purposes. Do your new Q-R valves have the same crack pressure as your original valves?
-
why do you have it set at 60psi???? if i go over 30psi it will try and pick the front wheels up off the ground... and if i get in the rain at that psi i just slide in he when trying to turn.. i set my drop axle at 20 and rides like a dream...if the axle still go up and down slow check your lines from bends that will do it as well....i have a freightliner tri axle dump myself....hope this helps...mike

another thing to check there should be a regulator on the main supply line from the air tank not supplying enough air to it. ie from dirt in the line or being faulty. had that happen a few times.

Since this happens when he's hitting bumps I can't help but think the axle is bouncing and causing the Q-R valve to release air due to a lower crack pressure rating on the new valves.

i still think its to much psi .. if i cross a track or a speed bump my drop axle will push out air so that its not to much and burst a bag.. try to lower the psi to bout 20/25 and drive it and i beat the axle will raise and lower faster...nobody that i know and work with has that much psi in the drop axle ...
also with that much psi it may just be keeping the q/r valve open all the time.. my valve went bad on my truck early this year and the axle would not come up at all.. put and new valve on problem solved, as stated the valve is only good to so much psi or it will release... -
The switch is mechanical.
The quick releases should have the same pressure ratings as the old ones. But I am not sure... I took them to the store and I am assuming they gave me the right ones. Any ideas what pressure I should be running?
I am going to install the old switch and see how it works with that. Perhaps I got a bad switch.
I guess I will put a new regulator on it... I had someone flip the switch and I watch the gauge and it will go right to the set psi but the axle will still move slow.
As for pressure I have tried pressures of 20-90psi and it does it at all pressures. If the pressure is lower the axle is slower and vice versa. I don't have a problem running at 50-60psi there is no difference in handling. It is on an air ride Peterbilt. I run them this high just in-case I get stopped at the scales. Looking at Hendrickson's chart I need about that much psi to make sure my axle weights are correct.
Thinking back when I had the original problem I would flip the switch and the quick release would not activate. The air would bleed out of the switch exhaust to raise the axle... -
