the proper use of the CB could have prevented this one-thursday on I-15 N in Parowan UT a truck hit an emergency worker(bear) that was working an accident 1 mile ahead of the TA truckstop.apparently the driver of the flatbed either was NOT listening to his radio,or was one of those who prefer NOT to speak english,,nevertheless-as i was fueling at the TA,numerous drivers were advising NB to back it down(actually the accident was there when i pulled into the TA),yet this guy came over the ridge in the hammer lane at full speed hitting the UTAH State Trooper. now many of you will argue that it's ok either to not use your radio at ALL times OR to speak in a different language, yet all i can say, if the driver HAD BEEN LISTENING IN ENGLISH!!! a STATE TROOPER would NOT be in the hospital!!!!

I agree 100% ,, A lousy incident happened to me thursday night at the pilot on 80 and 76 out side Harrisburg, There was a long line to even get in the place, I was waiting to pull in the lot from the street behind a schafer truck, when we got in we drove past an open spot, the schafer driver was setting up to back in to it, but I was already blocking it, so I called to him and said I will pull over to the right to give him the room to back in, there was no response and he started to back, I pulled over to the right all the way to the curb, all the while he was still backing, he stopped and did a pull up, and I was just sitting waiting. I told him he had about 15 feet till he would have to pull up again, no anser and he kept comming. Now I am yelling along with 10 other drivers to stop, but he backed right in to me, now get this he hit me with his right front tire, yep, he never not even once looked in his right side mirror through the whole manuver.. When he hit me I actually talked with him through my driver side window thru his pass window. give me a break, god I had my hazzards on and all. He just never looked. His truck was an absolute mess and he had this dog with him, which is fine but the windows had so much slobber on them they were almost useless.. When I asked why he had his radio off he answered that his safety dept dosent allow them to keep it on when backing.. Thank god no damage or none to him. I fixed my bumper today and buffed the rubber off my wheel well.. I have been driving 16 years accident free and would have been pissed if that ruined it.. All he needed to do was to look one time to see me. Never looked ,never listened, makes me wonder what his road habbits are with thoes fogged windows and yapping dog running around the cab.. Just what Every driver needs at 76 k and 75 mph.. ALL and all it was my fault for breaking my own policy of going to truck stops like ta or pilot, I never go to them at night, I run at night, and will go to the Ta to shower in the morning when everyone is gone, I never sleep there, I only go to mom and pop stops or gas stations with room for 3 or 4 trucks, always see the same drivers too. All I wanted was coffee, and to get out of there, so when we were done with all the bs I got trapped in a totally tangled fuel line for 20 min. because the drivers in line had all the exits blocked waiting for fuel...Never again I can promise that. I swear these places attract the best of them...

Yup, That Pilot absolutely sucks. I stopped there for fuel back in October and swore never to return. Most JB, Swift and others, especially rookies are so freakin rude these days. I turn the radio on in the truck stop only to turn it right back off for the nonsense. I know there is a driver shortage, or supposedly anyway, but I'd rather JB and Swift put all their freight on the rail and fire all those sorry bas*&ds working for them. I know they aren't all to blame, but the better part of them are.

Not having the CB on or being able to understand English has any thing to do with this loser hitting a cop.

I drive with my radio off most all the time and have yet to run into any thing other than a ditch.

had he been listening and acted accordingly, this would not have happened-if he was at the speed limit in the hammer lane,he had little time to react on just the visual. but i understand why many keep the radios off with all the post-pubescant BS that so many drivers put out there be it their music, ignorance,or combination thereof..personally i enjoy talking with PROFESSIONAL drivers when i have that oh so rare opportunity!! but i do leave mine on for one reason, i like to know what's up ahead of me or following me and when i'm surrounded by the 20 somethings who play their hip hop, heavy metal, etc over the radio, i just use the volume knob. i'm usually not in their company for long though, i try to avoid running with them in their slow governed trucks. it does go off when i'm anywhere near the TA in Ontario CA because there is so much BS coming out of the radio it starts dripping on the floor!!!

Any more no body gives road reports unless you ask for one........... over the stretch of about 15 miles before some one answers back because every body else has their radios off.

Exactly! I was pissd too because the guy kept blaming me, I finally said something about the dog and the mess his truck was in. My company doesn't allow pets or passengers, he called his safety dept, because he got scared I was going to hit him, ????,, their big concern was if I was going to file a claim, when he was asked what part of the truck he hit me with he replied he thought I drove into him, I started yelling into his headset that this was not the case, and started to explain our conversation through the windows.. He simply never looked, what erked me was he claimed to have 13 years but everything was so dirty and a mess, when i called him on it he kept blameing the dog, I know and have seen plenty of professional drivers with pets and also have clean trucks, it was the fact that he had no pride in his apperance, and was dangerous because of it!.. The very next night which was this friday I was in the pilot on exit 40 on I 95 in CT, again I would never stop here, but it is the last place I can fuel before I get home for the weekend, it was 2130 so I figured things would be quiet, and I could bang in and out, it is an eaiser on and off that the TA on exit 54. I was in line to get my receipt and this driver was at the desk next to me trying to get a shower, keep in mind there is a family waiting behind him with small kids. he has about 5 cards that he is fumbling around with to see if he has shower credits on, he has the guy trying all different ones with no avail, he has his clothes in a ball under his arm and they were hanging all over the place, he looked, acted, and smelt like a junkie who had not fixed in 2 days, he was shakeing, and said he worked for spyder logistics, the mother of the kids behind him had the kids bundled up in that protective ball of hugs only a nervous mother can do, finally the guy at the desk says I found some credits on this one, the guy takes the card and walks away, dropping his underware on the floor, with one sock, the lady yells out sir oh sir,, he turns goes to pick it up and drops everything els,, my god I was melting, whatever I am going off i9n the wrongplace here but I am so fed up with non professional people in our industrie they are killing people on the roads and making the few who are proud of what do look real bad, and it sucks, when and why did truck driving professionally become a carrear that You had to do because there was no where els to work, when did the pay get so crappy that there are literally bums doing it with no where els to go. I am embarresed every time I hear of a rollover on the radio because, I know 99% of the time it will be the drivers fault, giant companies ruined this industrie and in the end I hope it all comes out in the wash and they are the ones to suffer, I make good money driving and I truly believe it is bacause of the way I do things, and because I am proud to roll that truck with a big load on deck down the high way, I am neat and clean and so is my truck, am I perfect No way, I make money because I love the job, and I know how to do it, there are guys at my own company always complaing of no miles, funny I always have plenty at the end of the week, I for some reason never have to report damage, and am always on time even when there is traffic.. Ok I am done sorry for ranting just pissed off some guy who probably could give a rats ### about this indutrie some how killed a cop.. And I will bet anyone here the beat will go on and on!!!!!!!
