I was talking on the phone once and leaving a truckstop after putting clothes in the laundry. It was a relative calling once a month, so hanging up was out of the question. I heard a coin drop out and leaned to pick it up when I head even more dropping out of the bag pocket, I felt so stupid and just went on ,must have left a good buck there on the ground.
I think Bill Gates said that he would not pick up a 100 bill on the street because he'd lose more money in the process . An enviable position to be in, that is for sure
Wil, you pick up a coin anywhere?

Usually, I'll clean one side of the coin with rubbing alcohol, then super glue it somewhere, like on a floor, countertop, payphone shelf, commode seat, top of urinal, beside a cash register, etc. The mind is a terrible thing to waste.

If I see a coin, I'll pick it up, whether it be a penny, nickel, dime, quarter I don't care, it's money in my pocket. Once when I was walking into a Walmart I seen a guy in front of me drop a $5.00 on the ground (he must've been going through his pockets looking for something and it fell out) I picked it up and gave it back to the guy. You should've seen the look on his face, it was like he couldn't believe someone would do that. Made me feel good too.

The poll doesn't have a valid choice for me. I never pick up coins on the ground. But its not because I'm too good, that's a very arrogant assumption. That $0.10 is just not worth the time and effort to me. You can say it adds up all you want but if I spent all of my time looking and picked up every coin I could possibly find for the rest of my days, it would not make a significant impact on my quality of life or my ability to retire early.

Aw heck, I'll go down for a penny. UNLESS it is in a truck stop lot. Then I wouldn't touch anything, even a silver dollar.

I don't think anyone spends "all" of their time "looking" for anything. I believe the question pertains to 'if" you saw a coin on the ground, would you pick it up (no assumptions). As Joker illustrated, it adds up. $78 is not chump change and my coinage each year adds up to triple digits. My local bank has a free coin counter and makes it worth it, no more rolling, I just take the coins in and dump them in.

All my life, I never found more than a nickel on the ground, ever ! Then, about the time I turned 50, strange things began to happen. I would find $20 bills (maybe 4 or 5) quarters ($10 worth in a change machine) about $5.00 in change sitting in the gutter in Las Vegas, $35 in a cig case in Reno, a $100 bill in the grocery store in Az. a $1 bill in the street while riding my motorcycle. But the absolute strangest one was a $10 bill folded in fours floating in the toilet in a cat house in Wells, Nv. with 3 folds still dry and above water, which I fished out holding the dry part and dropped into the sink and "washed" it and "dryed" it and immediately spent it at the bar just 6 steps away.

I have to give a not vote on this one. Because the survey doesn't say where the coin is. And like you, I ain't picking up nothing in the parking lot. -
I always feel weird commenting on a post outside of the ladies room but this made me think of a client I had at one of my previous jobs. He was very well-to-do and he told me that he always picked up change no matter how small. He said something about there being a need for respect for money because if you'll throw away a penny then by the time you have money like him you'll be throwing away much more because it seems like you have enough. Does that make sense? Personally I do pick it up but most of the time I'm not paying attention.
