Beeson Hardware was my 1st public driving job, in the early 70's...a dump truck, after I got out of the Army. But I learned from my uncle that had a dairy farm by helping him drive when he got tired when I was 16 years old. He had an "OLD" twin screw Mack with a tag-axle and a duplex in it and a 40 ft. milk tank.

Star Transport out of Morton, IL. Lost some CAT contracts and miles went down hill so I left before my year was up. This was back in 08.

Started in 1975 flat bedding at Burton Lines out of Durham, NC, Their main haul was tobacco. They trained me, and i loved it. I left in 1978; took a job installing conveyor systems, but still drove for them during peak tobacco season. I was into firefighting for ten years, but still drove for Burton on my days off til EPES bought them out. I loved that black and silver. :biggrin_255:

First trucking job was actually in 1994....Deaton, pulling vans. My son had just been born, however, and I was ill-prepared to be gone so much at that point in my life. I was there only a few weeks.

First OTR Job was for a Small Mom and Pop outfit in LaSalle IL called Orbit Transport. Loved the Company and the Bossman and his Family he lost a Larger Contract after 10 months there and I had to move on called he had to Cut Back on Trucks. I still to this day stay in touch with him 16 years later that tell you anything. When a Bossman gives the keys to a truck that well lets just say will break Triple Digits and Beyond. Then when the Motor Blows do to a Turbo going when your pushing said truck so hard that when you get to the yard she sounded like a Washing machine he spends 10K on Parts to Overhaul her into a More Powerful and FASTER truck you know you have a Good place to work. Rose as the truck was known had more than 720HP to the ground and I was the ONLY person allowed to even Drive her anywhere.

He still talks of my run in her after the Overhaul from Streator to Ferdonia NY in less than 7 Hours door to door. 550 miles in less than 7 hours when OH and IL where still 55 MPH states. Do the Math that truck would FLY when needed.
