First of all let me say that I have driving for 30 yrs. now and my last job of 10 yrs. I left because the owner was getting up in yrs. and decided to sell out. Otherwise we are still very close friends. I came to work for Western 2 1/2 yrs ago at the strong suggestion of my former boss and I'm glad I did. Western is in my veiw a very good company to work for. They have been very good to me and my family.Western has excellant epuipment to work with and they maintain very it good. yes,it's true the pay scale starting out with this company is not what I would like to see, however the they make up for this in other areas of the company. the benifits they offer are decent.. and they staff always seems to have time to listen to you. There are some simple basics things a driver has to remember with this company. 1) pick up and deliver your loads on time. 2) turn in your paperwork on time and you will not have any problems with payroll. 3)Turn in your logs on a regular basis. 4) Don't get greedy and commit to a preplan load assignment that you know you cannot pick up or deliver on time..... this is the one thing I see so many drivers getting in trouble over !! It can leed to alot of problems for the driver.. sitting waiting for a load assigment... fines for being late with a time sensitive load ect. ect. Do these 4 simple things with them and you find as I have you'll enjoy working for this company as I have. Like I tell new drivers at Western whom ask of me " IF YOU DONT WANT TO WORK, THEN WESTERN IS NOT THE PLACE TO BE !!"

I take that this is not a forced dispatch company then.

Did Western just buy-out Smithway(SMX)? I have been seeing SMX trucks pulling Western trailers and vice versa for a couple weeks now. Also, when I drove past the SMX terminal in Des Moines the other day, it was full of Western Express trailers.

No eskimo, It was not and I repeat not a buyout of SMX but rather a merger. Western now owns controlling stock in SMX and the two companies are combining there operations. hope this clears things up for you. have a great day ! Jetgang. Ps. keep in mind I work for Western.

I know you do. That's why I posed the question to you. I was just curious about the situation is all.

If a company take controlling interest in another company that is a buyout.

Yep, they probably did not have enough investment to buy it out rite but you only need 51% and you basically are calling the shots financially.

But they still can operate as seperate operations if it is just a paper transfer.
