Ive been in some form of trucking for 34 years. Cant say Ive been ashamed of my career choice, its allowed me to raise and provide for a family all these years and Ive been and seen more than most people I know. I think most people outside the industry dont have a clue about real trucking, most of what they know comes from movies. As for the ladies.. After losing my wife to a stroke several years back Ive found that most dont want a commited relationship with someone thats only home for a few days a month but I have no trouble getting a date when Im home. If you cant be proud of what you do your probably not going to do it to the best of your ability so you might do us all a favor and go find something you really want to do. Without trucks America stops!
Are you embarassed to be a truck driver

I can purchase and live on property (land) without the involvement of a truck... Of course, I can't develop it without a truck though.

That's the only one I've been able to think of these long nights of sitting in my seat for 11 hrs. -
OK , The Bird you are correct you can purchase and live there...til you run out of 1st water and food and I'm assuming you don't have electricity.....won't be much of a life will it now......

Like I said, you can have it but just can't develop it without a truck.

The Bird Thanks this. -
I havent gotten off the ground yet hoping to very soon with my new cdl and during my decision making process i talked to a few friends about what i wanted to do what i was going to do the replies were not all that encouraging i told them this as we sat there enjoying a drink together- Do you like that drink you are drinking? that chair you are sitting in? Those shoes you are wearing? the home you live in? that new tree over there giving you shade? that ring that you got your wife that makes her so happy? well think how they got to where you bought em the blood sweat and tears of guys and gals who made the decision i have made that fuels the lifestyle you so greatfully enjoy and the lifestyle of so many people that offends people like me that are willing to sacrifice a home every day boring 9-5 lifestyle to drive truck.

You know what I think there would be a lot of people who would change their tunes if every trucker in North America just parked their trucks for 2 or 3 weeks and took a holiday. Kind of hard for them to go to work when there is nothing to due because they do not have the raw materials. Even the desk jockeys who are making all these stupid new HOS rules would be kissing our ##### to return to work.

Just because a job is absolutely essential doesn't mean it takes anyone special to do it. Very often, the opposite is the case. Most any young American man can earn the privilege of dying in the infantry of the Marines by scoring a 13 or higher on the ASVAB. Most any chimpanzee could probably be trained to clean a toilet. If this makes anyone angry (and I know it will), it will only be because you know I'm right.
I'm personally not bothered that women might think less of me when I become a trucker. After all, I have so many other wonderful qualities to offer--my tact and sensitivity, for instance. -
not at all
one thing i realized about working in corporate america, you are treated WORSE than as a truck driver
there is a common theme of "fitting in" "being a team player" "repeating the corporate mantra" but once you realize how sheepish this is, you can appreciate being a truck driver, coming and going as you please
given an assignment (your load) and completing it at your level of comfort
you can sit all day and watch tv or you can drive or you can go home for a week, all at your time frame. no one is making you sit in "meet and greet" and act like you remotely care about what these people say and do
i guess it is this freedom that made me want to be a truck driver and is why i am so against bringing that corporate-control mentality into the cab of my truck
plus i make more money now
so it makes no sense to be ashamedscottied67 Thanks this. -
definitely not ashamed or embarrassed.
My parents are proud of the decision I made and that's really all that matters.
