It is actually not to cold up here right now. It was rainy all weekend but the sun is out today. If you get a chance let me know if you find out how freight runs up this way.

Personally, Sour Dough, I would not look forward to a 150 drive home after driving all week, but it is certainly doable. I usually get 48 hours or more at home, but have had a weekend or two that was exactly 34 hours and out again. That doesn't happen very often though.
I parked at the customer in Tuscaloosa, AL last night and man did it storm. Lightening took out a tree about 150 yards from my truck. It sounded at times like I was parked in a truck wash. When I woke up this morning it was clear and turned out to be a beautiful day.
As soon as I was legal to roll they had me take an empty from Tuscaloosa to the Birmingham SVC and drop it, then I bobtailed to Vance for a Mercedes parts load I am taking to Robbinsville, NJ. 930 miles. I deliver on Wednesday morning, pick up there and back to Mercedes Parts in Vance, AL. Great runs that will have me deliver in AL on Friday morning with a fresh clock to get home with. Looks like a 2500 mile week this week. I fueled and shut down at our Tri Cities yard in Kingsport, TN. I have a 575 mile drive to NJ tomorrow. Not a problem. Will avoid DC and make it an even better day. LOL -

How long does it take to hear back from these folks? Put in an application for a spotter position at the Nissan Plant in Decherd, TN. After 21 years looking to hang up OTR and be home everyday. Let me know

Hello all, just wanted to say thank you for all the great insights Mustang and Big Mike and others have put in here in helping me to decide on whether or not I want to get into trucking early 2013. I am 43, kids are grown and gone and looking for a career change. I have some things I need to get out of the way first and from I have read here and other places, Averitt seems to be a great company to work for. I am in northern Ala off the Tenn. border between Florence and Hunstville. Can someone kindly tell me or give me a list of Averitt approved schools I can attend around here? Thanks so much!

I don't know that I have actually ever seen a list of those schools, however, any recruiter for Averitt should be able to tell you. Also, you may can talk to a few local schools to see if Averitt sends recruiters to their school. If Averitt sends a recruiter out then they will most certainly would be an approved school. You can check Averitt's web site to locate a telephone number to call for employment information. -

Arrived in NJ and shut down about 13 miles from my customer in Robbinsville. Found a parking spot at a small Loves. Even at 4:45 PM there was very little to choose from in the way of parking. I had to kick the heat on for the first time last night. Got down to about 34.
I will head on over to my delivery/pick up at around 10 this morning and then start the trek back to Vance, AL as soon as they have me ready to roll. I hope to make our Tri-Cities or Knoxville yard tonight and finish off tomorrow. I am told I can drop early so I'll be there sometime midday Thursday if all goes well.
The fall colors were beautiful in Maryland, Delaware and here in Jersey. Nice view from my office window for sure. -
It was well worth it.
bigmikectn Thanks this.
