All you need to do is keep your heel on the bottom of the pedal and lightly apply pressure at a sooner time than usual until you get the feeling of how the brakes are adjusted in that truck.

I was recently given a 2010 Volvo. Dang these brakes are touchy! Especially when left foot braking while bobtailing.

They are nice and strong when fully loaded and on dry pavement, But I am not looking forward to this winter in Chicago!

    Pmracing,
I am wearing a day-hiking boot style with a composite toe (used to work in food service industry ... we were almost running all day!). I have been asked to buy real boots and most guys wear loggers (one of our facilities requires a "defined heel"). I can just imagine how well I'll drive in brand-new, unbroken logger-style boots!:biggrin_25513:

    BossOutlaw88,
Thanks! I will try that along with some earlier comments. I have done that to some extent when I have room to do that; usually I am coming up to a rail road crossing (always at the bottom of a hill -don't chya know) in a 55mph and have to stop rather quickly.

    Taildragon,
I focused on your approach today and it went a lot better. I still reverted to habits learned on hanging brake pedals when stopping for cutting four-wheelers, etc. But when I could think about it, what you suggested helped a lot! Thanks!!:yes2557:

Just keep thinking about what you are doing each time, within a couple weeks it will come naturally. You need to be able to hit the brakes in an emergency by instinct, so that it is your natural reflex to do so with precision. Try and get that down pat before you go to the stiffer boots, you will then have to adjust for that.
