Depends on which company you are talking too. Some companies are up tight. The majority are not. If it has asked you if you have ever failed a test then you have to put it. If you put the year it would probably make a difference. Some allow felons after 7 or 10 years so It really isn't that big of a problem. If they don't ask you just fill out your 10 year application and you will never have to list that as a reason that you were fired or not hired.

These guys are leading you in the wrong direction. If they find out about it during orientation. They will list that on your DAC report for falsifying application and your career is pretty much ruined. Some will say yeah and some will say Nayy Go with the ones that say Yeahh and forget about the rest. Just fill out the application as truthful as you can. Not sure how long ago misdemeanors and felony reports they pull go back but if you had a misdemeanor 20 years ago. You put it on your application.

This is exactly why Ive been 100% honest. I dont feel like Ive done anything so horrible I need to hide it. But sitting at home being honest dont pay the bills. I filled out a couple more apps today and they only asked about dot testing. I hope one of them comes through. And quickly!

A drug test is a medical test. They do not have access to a medical test. Now if you have already told someone about failing a non dot drug test then it is public record. A company who you have told that too can put it into your DAC as a reason they did not hire you. Never volunteer anything. But if asked reply honestly. Or at least answer the question as asked. If you shot someone 11 years ago and they ask about felonies 10 years or less, don't mention the shooting. Some companies ask if you have ever failed a drug test. They are not asking about DOT drug test, they are asking about any drug test. For that you answer yes. You then explain. Remember 75% of all Americans have used some form or illegal drug or used a legal drug incorrectly. The ex-President to Be admits to being a coke head. Always tell the Truth and the whole truth and NOTHING but the truth.

Of course if you are trying to get a girl into the sack, forget all about that truth thing.

Yeah, trucking companies LOVE true confessionals about your past - - that they would have never discovered on their own otherwise. They'll thank you for being so forthright and honest as they file your app in the recycle bin.

Go on the internet and do a criminal background search on yourself. Use at least two of the services. Check with the state to see if your missy is disoverable. If nothing comes up your golden.

"Have you ever failed a drug screen?" is a trick question - - now you know.

I appreciate the answers everybody. I think I will base my answer by the wording of the question. I think I still have a couple shots, and with decent companys. What pissed me off the most is this co said i had a job, gave me a start date, moved it back twice, then when Im supposed to start monday they hit me with this question. She says ohh, that disqualifies you. Why wasnt that sorted out a month ago when all this started? I quit my job and turned down opportunities for you now this? Water under the bridge now, but a couple other cos asked about the same thing and left me with the same response. That got me worried. But the hunt continues!

Keep the failed drug screen QUIET! It's way too long ago and will never be found out unless you volunteer the info. The employer WILL have the ability to find your pot conviction, however. DO NOT LIE ON YOUR APPLICATION ABOUT THE CONVICTION!!! IT WILL BE DISCOVERED AND YOU WILL BE FIRED FOR LYING. When you are fired, you will get a bad DAC and this info will remain on your DAC for 7 years. Your DAC will say that you were "terminated for lying on your application" and you will be unemployable as a trucker for 7 years. Most companies WILL overlook your pot conviction because you kept yourself clean for 10 years. Any company that does not want to hire you is a piece of crap company that you wouldn't want to work for anyway. DON"T LIE. JUST TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT THE POT CONVICTION AND, FOR GOD'S SAKE, KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT ABOUT THE FAILED DRUG SCREEN!

Beware of the trick questions. It's an old trick companies use. They wait until you're hired and feeling like you're part of the family & comfortable, then hit you with a trick question. Be prepared for that in the future. Here are a few companies with regional; you didn't say which region you're in. One of the companies is not regional, but if they hire you, take the job, then in 6-12 months, you can change. Don't volunteer anything or you can forget the trucking jobs. Do these online applications:

    systemtrans.com
    drive4us.com
    drive4marten.com
    navajo.com
    westernexp.com

There are plenty more. Also, some applications say require 6-12 mos OTR. But, will also say "recent driving school grads." Either way, just start hitting companies with online apps. Also, google "truck driver jobs" for more online apps.

I just want to add that there is no agency that is storing your failed drug screen from 12 years ago. Employers will word their questions in order to trick you into giving up unobtainable information. They are just hoping that someone will be dumb enough to spill the beans. The employers don't even go back more than 10 years on the previous employment questions, SO WHO IS GOING TO ASK A COMPANY FROM 12 YEARS AGO ABOUT YOUR HISTORY WITH THEM WHEN THEY AREN'T EVEN LISTED ON YOUR APPLICATION? HUH? HUH?

Schneider may overlook this. They overlook alot of bad DAC reports. Schneider's motto is: Everything has to match up to be logical. For example, if you had false info placed on your DAC, Schneider will match up your DAC report to your MVR. Got a good MVR and a bad DAC? Schneider oft times overlooks the bad DAC figuring it was spiteful if your MVR is clean. Try Schneider. I don't know, but they may overlook your conviction on the basis that you kept yourself clean over the years. They seem to give drivers a fair shake. AND SHUT UP ABOUT THE DRUG SCREEN! There is no way on earth that anybody can EVER find that out!!! That drug screen is long dead and gone. Don't dig up that long dead horse.
