This is what gets me upset about the d.o.t who say's they are just trying to keep the roads safe. I got pulled in at the clanton AL . rest area. there was a d.o.t convention going on. the officer checked everything, when done he asked for my paperwork, logs. e.t.c. then said your tag light is out, do you have a replacement bulb? I said I sure do. keep them right here in my glove box next to my seat. he asked if I could replace it while he does the paperwork? Sure. I replace bulb & in less than 45 seconds. it's now working. now I just had a d.o.t insp 2 weeks prior just 40 miles from here. passed with no violations, even got a bonus from my co. did my pretrip at 9:00 am. all is good & at 2:00 p.m. my tag light is out. o.k. so the officer writes the report, showing the violation.

NOW I'll say this those those who say, if you keep your equip up, & do your pre/post trips, you have nothing to worry about. B.S.!!! I told the officer.. everything has to go out sometime. how do I prevent a light from going out? I can't. how can I predict when a light is going to go out befoe it does? I can't. the fact that it was daylight, the fact that I had a spare bulb to correct defect & replace it in seconds, the fact that I had NOT one other violation should of told this officer, I do take safety seriously & I think he should not of given me the violation that is now on my csa score card. What say you?

The fact is, he found a violation. Plain and simple. It doesn't matter that you were able to correct it, on the spot. A violation, is a violation.

i think the point they're tryin to make is that if a violation occurs in transit and can be spot corrected, then it shouldn't count, or there should be some sort of curve to the rule.

I would say that you were lucky that he let you replace the bulb without writing you up. Maybe he DID realize that you take safety seriously...

I was DOT'ed a while back. The only thing that he could get me on was one of the trailer id marker lights was out. I wasnt given the chance to repair the problem.

I agree with you heavyhaulerss. This is whats wrong with CSA2010. A light might only be out for 5 minutes but if a DOT officer wants to be a prick then you get points on your PSP. Crooked if you ask me...

All it was happening is the revenue convention on state land, when DOT were decent they would had let you do it onsite and been happy with it and no paper.

Someone has to pay for the Governors photocopier and planes.

So, where do you draw the curve? As it is, a violation is a violation, pretty easy to understand. No guessing how far you can push the line, and there are people that will push that line.
