The reason we have a points system now is so many ignored it when it was only a warning. You may have fixed the light right there, others may get written up for it multiple times before fixing it.
When you're pulling carrier violations all the time you see a lot of the same violation over and over on the same vehicle.Autocar Thanks this. -
in jest of course.

Should have fought it. Despite many logs having the labelled blanks on the sheet, those notations are not required.
Scalemaster and volvodriver01 Thank this. -
i think that'll be one of those situations where if it's there, then you should do it.. Like a local driver doesn't need to have a log book, but if they happen to have on in the truck, then it has to be current.

Personal vehicles are regulated by the states. Commercial vehicles are regulated by the states and the Feds. Very different standards and not comparable.
Yes, an officer can use discretion, but that doesn't mean that I should expect it, at any time. If he finds a valid violation, I expect a write up. If he/she does not write it up, cool!
An inspection from two weeks ago, or even yesterday, has no bearing on the inspection today. If I pass an inspection yesterday, but they find a brake can hanging down, today, am I less guilty of a violation? I don't think so!
Over two years ago, I got nailed for "log not current". I wasn't happy, for sure. But it wasn't the officer's fault that my log wasn't current, it was mine. Could he have let it slide? Yep, but he didn't and I have no complaints about him doing his job. It cost me some money, that is not tax deductible, and points.
There is no use to get upset about things you cannot control. Somedays you are the pigeon and somedays you are the statue. That particular day and time, you just happened to be the statue.
FIDO (Forget It, Drive On), you'll be happier. -
Some companies are being targeted also. This I was told by a DOT officer. I quit one that the officer told me that they were targeting them for shut down. I have a clean record, and don't need to be working for a company that is being watched by the DOT.
NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
I argued about it being redundant, that it was covered by the remarks. That head of safety guy said fill it in anyway. Also, what I do now sometimes is out and back the same day, and we always return before taking another out whether hauling live or processed.
I now put where I was at the start of the day and again at the end of the day, multiple stop loads in different cities and states, which 'one' is the destination, and why isn't the destination the same as your starting point if you end up there anyway?
Last log book check on the road, I wasn't what they were looking for so I got a couple of questions, it was out and back on the same night, the grid was current and nothing else mattered, but in another state, I would probably have gotten written up for not dotting an 'i'. -
I understand the venting. Crap happens, that's life!

Not even remotely similar. If a driver operating under the 100 air-mile radius provision is using a log book instead of the carrier tracking his time then yes, it better be correct to the extent it is required. A superfluous blank on a form that is not required to be filled is not the same. If we are required to follow the rules, then hold enforcement officers to the same standard.volvodriver01 Thanks this.
