I look at the pictures of car haulers and they seem very high to me. What's the height on these?

I run 14' max front to back, tractor and trailer. No more. Some areas are different based on bridges, tunnels, etc. Some carrriers here run 14'2" as policy.

If you run some places on the east coast, you better be under 13' 6". Back when I hauled cars we never left running the east coast unless we were 13' 8" or less. Running out west it is common to see some at 14'.

If you run I-95 in New England you are likely to have a convertible with that height. I could not tell you about those turnpikes since I don't use them. Most car haulers that I used to know back when I hauled cars would not go over 13' 6" in New England.

I'm not sure, and I know someone here will correct me, but I think Allied Systems company policy in the whole US is 13'-6". I know that I wouldn't run anywhere in New England, especially the Tri-State area (CT, NY, and NJ) over 13-6.

    BTW : Re - Low Clearances :

    http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...connection/88188-low-clearance-solutions.html

I used to pick up the "Low Clearance" book every September when the new ones came out - - back in the day - - I stopped along time ago when I got to know where most of them were. Apparently the new truckers GPS systems are SUPPOSED to tell you all that. Nothing beats experience and hollering out on the CB.

After hauling over dimensional loads and cars for a bit, mostly in the North East ( New England and Maritime Canada ), I have a an appreciation for clearance signs and GOOD escorts ! And by good escorts I don't mean ...... well never mind ..... you get the idea.

14' on the west coast, 13' 6" on the east coast. In the mid west it depends on where you are at. For example you can run 14' 6" in most of the state of Colorado. You can get permits for some states that allow you to run over the legal limit on a regular basis.
