Got a friend who owns a straight truck registered IRP out of Illinois. He runs loads to Indiana 2-3 times a week and after being pulled over a dozen times he's sick of it. Indiana nails him right and left because he has no rear plate even though Illinois, where the truck is registered requires the plate on the front. He has tried to get Illinois to issue another plate but they won't. He even carries the Illinois statute with him but the Indiana Hi-Po could give two chits. He now stops on the side of the road as he crosses the state line and moves the plate front to back to keep the Hi-Po off his ###. Anyone have any ideas?
Swapping IRP license plate front to back at the state line.......

Would it be possible/legal to have a photo of it printed on laminated cardstock or something and put that on the back? I'd imagine a sign shop could probably figure out some way to make that happen.

I would think that wouldn't be legal........

get your elected state representative involved. Be amazed what can happen when you do.

Missouri only issues front plates for pickup trucks licensed over 12,000 pounds...which includes the truck & any trailer you intend to pull with it. KY & IN (and others) only issue 1 plate to ALL vehicles, to be mounted in the rear. Illinois issues 2 plates to passenger cars and pickup trucks...one for the front, one for the rear. If the state you are registered in only issues one plate, you install that plate where the issuing state wants it and you are legal in EVERY state. Illinois can't do to a Missouri pickup truck without a rear plate or a KY or IN car without a front plate, because the vehicle is plated properly in its home jurisdiction.
However, that Illinois tag MAY be required to be mounted on the rear of your friend's truck...

...then hire a lawyer and proceed to make the cop look like a doofus in front of the judge.Jake The Bullhauler Thanks this. -
They have yet to ticket him. They just keep pulling him over. It's more of an annoyance than anything. Not to mention a waste of time. Don't cops have anything better to do????

IRP sets the rules for IRP registered vehicles, not the states. The IRP plate must go on the front. I would contact IRP directly. They have been helpful to me in the past. http://www.irponline.org/

Is it local cops or the State Police doing that. I could see local cops being ignorant of the IRP regs but the State Police should know better.
