Appreciate it sir. Twas weather more than construction this week. Downpours and the most courteous one fingered waving ohio drivers that i've ever witnessed waiting for the last minute to get into the lane they were supposed to be in to facilitate their commute home. lol

One of the flatbed drivers told me they were getting things setup to let TCD trainees start going with Flatbed Trainers so they could at least get the newbees (that would be me) evaluated on their driving skills.

Hmm, you never know, I might like flatbeds!

Yep Curt qcommed a message a few months back about that, TCD students going out with Flatbed Instructors and asked for volunteers to do so. I responded to it both via Qcom and phone conversation re: my opinion. Unless they changed what they were originally planning on doing, if a TCD student went out with a flatbed instructor, the student would NOT be required to help set up to load, secure, tarp, untarp, unsecure, or stowe equipment. The student would do the qualcom work and trip planning and of course drive. Maverick was looking for feedback and volunteers to do so. I gave my feedback and also volunteered. Last time i checked, a month after the qualcom message which would put it at about 4 months ago, i still was the only instructor that had volunteered.

If i got a TCD student, i would ask that he please assist me in getting in and out of the truck (open and close the door) and of course help slide my trailer axles....OH YEAH......those are fixed and don't slide. LOL

I'm a company driver and will always do whatever they ask me to do to help Maverick. Trip planning, and safe driving would be the only thing i could teach a TCD student. Trip planning can be taught in a classroom be it at Maverick or while the student is in the passenger seat with hypothetical loads. Safe driving of course is best demonstrated on the road.

Backing. There are no cdl schools that teach backing with spread axle trailers so although the concept is the same, in actuality the swing of a freightbox is alot different than that of a spread axle trailer. Qualcom work is the same. And as far as "washouts" go the only thing i washout is the cab of the tractor with windshield washer fluid and an old company towel.

"TCD students wouldnt be required" to help chain,tarp etc. This is precisely why there arent any other volunteers. I trained at another company in the flatbed division. The rule was if you rode in a flatbed truck then regardless of what division you were going to you must help out. I had a student or two try to escape this rule who were promptly dropped back at the terminal. If you were in my truck then you were expected to help,PERIOD!
