The license plate lite on my truck is not even functional, it's all smashed, besides the plate is on the front bumper of the truck.

A construction formen told me yesterday, he got a ticket from a KS DOT guy for not having his windshield washer reservor full. Now he was driving a pickup with a construction trailer, DOT love those guys, always a potential for a violation there. Guy could not find anything else wrong, so he nailed him for no washer fluid.

Idiots eh????? We are required by the company to run a book, but then again we do run outside the 100 mile area on occasion, and you may not know till you get your load ticket. Often times if you do get stopped, they don't even ask to see your book, but mine is always up to date. When I get to the job site before I get out of the truck, I update.

outside the radius is one thing.

inside the radius is just plain stupid. and a waste of your time.

you only need to fill out ONE log for the day you work over 12 hours. or multiple days if the case may be.

but some of you do it just becuase you think you need to JUST IN CASE.

i can see if the company wants you to. although why would be beyound me. but to do JUST BECAUSE your paranoid. :biggrin_25513:

This is where reasonable judgement and common sense come into play. Could it have blown in transit after the pretrip, sure and.judging by how prepared he was, it seemed likely. Could his tires go from fine to being illegal before between his pretrip and then, likely not.

We want to avoid trapping people Into having no way to comply with the law, and the letter of the law does that, but the judgement of the officer may feel that the spirit of the law hasn't been violated.

These types of things should not be left up to the 'judgement of the officer'; the enforcement officers are there to simply identify and cite violations. The COURT SYSTEM is where the law is intended to be interpreted. Unfortunately, history has shown that CSA does not offer the ability to be heard in court - even when a citation is issued for a violation.

I'm curious about how well the LEDs work in the snow vs. the incandescents? I haven't had any experience with this, so maybe someone who has can give us some information about how often they have to stop and clear the accumulated snow from LED lights where the incandescent would have remained clear as a result of the heat generated.

Never had LED in the ice or snow situations but can comment on the part of being more reliable then filament type lights, the LED does seem to have a reasonable life time over standard bulbs but cost more for initial purchase.

The truck and trailer I drove had them and they seem far more reliable for overall use.

Ok, HHSS got pulled into a roadside inspection. The inspector found a required light not working, at the time of the inspection. Under both Federal DOT and CVSA criteria, a required lamp not operable, is a violation. The inspector is required to note any valid violations on the inspection report. Afterall, that is the purpose of an inspection, to look for violations. The inspector has no discretion, in this area. Where he did practice discretion, as far as I can discern from the OP, is the inspector did not write a citation, although he certainly could have. Being able to repair the violation, on the spot, may well have had an effect on the situation. That may be the act that the inspector took into account to decide not to issue a citation. However, he is still required to note any violations, on the report, that he found during the inspection.
For those of us that try or best to keep every duck in a row, it is quite disappointing when one gets out of line. However, things do happen beyond our control and that's just life!
