OK, what is your question here? I've tried to decipher your post, but frankly, I just don't get it.

I think I get what you are saying. You did quit on your own because you didn't want to be laid off. Just simply tell a prospective employer that you left to seek another job because you didn't want to receive unemployment. If anything, that should make you look good. I don't see where the bad info is.

Many companies that you used to work for will only verify dates of employment, title(s) you held while employed, and if you are rehireable or not. Being rehireable is actually good information, since it shows that you were not a performance/attendance/safety issue while you worked for them. The information that you put down about resigning on your own was accurate at the time you wrote it down since you did not know until recently that the company was closing down. If the former company does not send you a letter about the shutdown, request one from them so you can have proof of the closing and the date. This way, it will show that the information you gave about resigning was accurate to the best of your knowledge & the company's closing is a more recent development that occurred after your resignation.
It shouldn't be an issue for you if you approach it this way. If a prospective employer asks, just explain that you did quit on your own and that you found about about the company closing shortly afterwards. I work in HR, so I hear pretty frequently about company closings in this economy...just be straightforward and give a simple explanation of the situation. Also, before everyone in the old company finds new jobs and scatters, see if you can get a couple of co-workers or a couple of bosses to act as references for future jobs...always a good idea to have, especially in the case of a company closing. -
i did maria but my new employer thinks i just keep it off my application which i didnt think i needed to tell him i put on my app that my company went out of business they said i quit on my own. i had to find another job about 250 of us did so what i am saying is they shouldnt even sent that info of quitting on my own even my new employer said he doesnt need that info just if i am rehireable or not he said that could keep me from getting a job saying i quit own my own .but anyway after all that info they said i was still hireable but i want that info saying i quit on my own off my record. hope this helps best i can explain it

Okay, I see what you are saying. The former employer is trying to say that you resigned when the actual situation is that they were closing and that is why you no longer are with them. If the employer has not closed yet, see if you can get a letter from them stating that they are closing/have closed with an effective date listed on the letter. Also, see if you can round up references from them who will back up the company closing as well...that way you will be covered. If they won't change it, there isn't much you can do except for explain the incorrect information--after the company closes it will be easy for the new employers to see what the real story is anyhow.

First off, southpoint, thank you for the clarification. I just didn't get what you were trying to say. The situation sounds a bit strange to me. If they sent you notification they were closing, do you still have that paperwork? If so, show it to your new employer.
If you no longer have that paperwork, then perhaps the best thing you can do, is to just show that you resigned for personal reasons, (or something on that order,) on any other applications that you fill out. That is just a practical suggestion.
I am wondering about the entire situation here. Is that company actually going out of business? Or did they just send out those letters in an effort to cut back on staff, without laying anyone off. That way, they get the benefit of not having people file for unemployment. That would really suck, but companies have been known to pull this type of crap.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
This still doesn't make sense. It's not going to come off your record. You quit before they went out of business. Lots of drivers quit. As long as they didn't put you were fired. You are ok. Maybe the employer you are working for now. Is just saying that so you don't leave there in the future. You tell the next employer the same thing you told us. They said they were closing and to look for other employment and you did.
