Just thought I would let you guys know my experience with the vu qube has been great. After messing with a regular dish on and off for several years I bought a vu qube when I bought my last truck and I can honestly say it is the ONLY thing that I have ever bought for any of my trucks that acutally works as advertised! In the two years I have owned this thing it has worked great. Once parked it only takes a couple of minutes to get a signal. I spend alot of time in areas where there is no over the air tv(meatpacking towns in KS) and I think it was well worth the price.(about $500) So after two years it is one of my best buys and if you already have satellite at home it's not very expensive. Just thought I would let you know about my expierence, others may differ.
Buy the way I have direct tv, which is only standard def with the vu qube, I think you can use it for hi def on dish but don't know for sure.

    wulfman75 and Dieselboss Thank this.

Thanks for the info on the vu-qube. Just today I was looking into a satellite TV for my truck. I have direct tv and thought about taking the box with me. I looked on eBay and saw the vu-qube and wondered how it would work. As soon as I can afford one I’m getting one. Again Thanks.

Do you use the Vue Cube at truck stops? Are you worried about theft? Where do you place the unit?

It is mounted up high on the back of the truck traditionally. Although there are portable versions as well.

If it is mounted, then theft is very difficult. If it is portable, then you do not leave it outside when your truck is unattended. And you have to store it in the truck. And you need to get it high enough over over line-of-site obstacles when you want to use it.

But they are in use in both flavors for sure.

That sounds like a great idea for a owner-op. For a company driver such as myself, I'd be ready to kill if soneone ran over or stole my $500 Vuqube. I'll pass. My $30 airplane antenna works great on my Coby system.

the vu cube was highly praised about 5 years ago on this sight. although, at that time it was priced at about 1G.

so, the sooner you all start buying. the sooner i can buy at a cheaper price. not that i have time to sit and watch tv anyways. :biggrin_255:

i think it would be cool if someone would develop some type of usb tuner. to plug into laptops. like i do already with OTA local channels.
it has a antannae that screws into the device which plugs into the usb port. i open the app and watch tv and switch channels just like a remote and regular tv.

it even does recording and timer recordings. as long as the laptop is left on. and the app running.

Ah, right. Unfortunately, if someone did make one, it would only work with the free channels, and not Dish/DTV.

that's exactly what i have. although a different model. but it only picks up OTA. local channels.

but yeah, something to that effect for satellite would be kewlio.

we have satellite radio. it's small, portable, and can easily transfer vehicles.

    why not tv.
