Not from the west coast so dont crucify me but is this the same tunnel where there was an huge pileup like 30+ trucks about two years ago?
-
yup. the same
-
yea That tunnel has always been a trouble spot
-
Thats crazy.. the second tunnel has 35 speed limit but nobody goes less than 50mph, when its wet there you'd better slow down.
I remember that crash, I-5 closed. Everybody to 138 E.
-
yep.. they had it closed for awhile putting in more lights and redoing the pavement. they even put a lower speed limit but doesn,t seem to work.
-
yeah..gets real bad when it rains. there use to be a big puddle at the end of the tunnel. caltrans finally got that fixed (mid '80s). when i drove for swift back in '97 i was folliwing a schneider truck and saw his brakelights come on so i started to slow down and when i got into the tunnel the whole left lane was blocked. i made an immediate right into the rite lane and somehow got thru.i could still hear trucks crashing b4 i left the tunnel.

yup same tunnle.
And others are correct, the spped is lowered, yet NO ONE heeds it.
CHP doesn't even patrol it, Never have seen an officer sitting in the area. watching it.
