Well guys just got the call from FedEx Ground running teams with my buddy. Said they are super busy right now. Should make 1200 or more a week. Home every 4 to 6 days. Goodbye Reddaway!

That doesn't sound too bad, considering what else is out there. How much time do you generally have to put in, before you get a regular schedule, with YRC?

Do you lose your seniority if you go from one teamster company to another? How about companies under the same "umbrella," like YRC too Holland?

How long does it take for your company disability coverage to kick in?

    Oh, can you carry concealed?

Economy and elections: Politicians seem big on lip service and short on keeping promises. Yeah, I think the economy is sort of doing its own thing. They say trucking is an excellent indicator of where the economy is at, in our "boom bust" economic cycle (driven up by easy credit and down by credit defaults/maxed out on credit).

Good deal cool35. I think I'm just gonna stick it out. Don't understand why everyone has to slow down because of the election. What does it matter? I don't get it. Anywho, at least FedEx Ground will keep you busy through X-Mas.

Good deal Cool35, funny thing was a guy from fedex ground who owns a line-haul truck just called me. I spoke to him back in january and he kept my number. AT the point I was still with YRC and I told him I have a job but thx for the call back. It would be from 3pm to finish... 1100 a week but no benefits which I really really need. It was tempting but I dont wanna deal with FDX Ground bs again... I applied for the rail-road doing construction, got an opening plus its also a CDL position so I got the exp in both, plus its union government job. Also trying with the local tanker area by me as well

    Wrangler I can answer those
For senority it could take YEARS since the turnover is lowww

If its a change of operations you will keep your senority if you go where they are looking or to where they tell you to go... If you transfer on your own or dont go where they tell you then it messes with your senority.

You have to be in the union to be eligible for disability, i hurt my leg and lost a week when I was still on casual status, shouldve been out longer but couldnt afford to lose more money

Carry concealed - ABSOLUTLY NOT! there are signs everywhere... believe me, I have a carry permit and would bring it with me but if your caught you are ****ed. I run some shady bad areas too, they arent white people friendly either(not being racist)...

Squonk I hope your not one of them... but hopefully you get eligible for partial unemployment. FedEx ground is pretty busy year round so Cool35 will be good. With the bad economy, first they go from truckloads to less than truckloads, then less than truckloads to small package like fedex and UPS. Plus with all the internet shopping as well.

Thanks guys. Guess I'll still be in ltl but it's what I like. I just don't like being laid off and like having a steady paycheck. 4-6 days otr is not bad at all for me. Just gonna be pulling doubles and don't have to chain up. This contractor has a strict policy "if it's bad enough to chain, it's too bad to drive." Has a 1000 sign on bonus and benefits (which is rare) and my friend sent me pictures of the truck he's in. It's a 2011 Volvo with anti shock mattress, fridge, gps, microwave and cb. Said he keeps the trucks really nice. Like ACH said they are busy year round. He said they slow down a little bit after Christmas but not like other places. Kinda looking forward to going back on the road. Really looking forward to not sitting by the phone.

Squonk, Hope you don't join the ranks of being laid off. I'm definitely next.

ACH, good luck with the railroad job. That would be a sweet deal.

So, you're just on crazy hours for years and years? I thought you had kind of a steady route. That on call sounds rough. For a year or two maybe it might be o.k., but not for a decade!

It just depends on where you go to work. It also depends on how busy they are, right place at the right time, etc. I was at Estes and they hired me for a bid run. A few months later they cut 4 bid runs and laid off some on the extra board. To me there is no such thing as job security. The economy is bad right now, so getting a bid run might take a while. I'm the only one on the extra board at my barn and I haven't worked all week. There were 3 guys under me but they got laid off. Waiting by the phone does suck.
