I'm looking to buy a truck(1995 fld120) w/cummins n14 it was 480,000 miles on inframe. I talked with the owner today and he said there was no problem when he parked it 2 months ago but now it will not start. Heres the message he sent me.

My mechanic called me few days ago said it wouldn't start so he put computer on it and it wouldn't read engine positioning sensor so I bought new one $285.00 It still wouldn't start. So the ecm needs flashed. I can put a test ecm on it so u can hear it run.

Should I get it flashed? How much something like this cost?
    Get a new ecm?
    Get a PDI ecm with a stage 1 ($2,800.00), stage 2 ($3,100.00), or stage 3 ($3,400.00) ?
    Used ecm?
    Something else?

If he doesnt get it running and wont sell it cheap, run... Truck is parts truck or scrap if it doesnt run.If you like to tinker, buy it for scrap price and get it running yourself. If you cant get it running without spending big $,part it out or junk it.

Yep, like the others have said, do not buy until he fixes it. Don't let the low price, or his story of the truck being perfect two months ago pressure you into making this decision. The truck not running right now is his problem, not yours.

i would check it out with the test ecm on it, hear it run drive it and all, then haggle on the price if all checked out but the ecm i would be in at the 4000 range. if he puts a new ecm on it or flash's the one he has 6000 would be about where i would want to be...

i bought a 99 379 with 870,,000 miles on original engine for 7800 that was a few years ago..

but either way you need to hear it run and check it out before spending a dime
