got my oil sample back and it said that high copper level in isolation probably a result of leaching of oil cooler core/oil additive reaction and does not indicate wear. just wondering what it could be?

If it were my truck, I would pull the oil cooler and check its condition. Look inside the oil passage holes to see if the tubes are discolored and check for pitting. These are signs of a failing oil cooler. While you are at it, look inside the water sides and see if the rubber sealant that holds the tubes in place is in good condition. Gently run a piece of wire through all of the tubes to clear them of obstructions.

Do you use any oil additives?
Which engine are you running? Cat c-12 and c-15 engines typically show higher levels of copper in their oil than other engines.
Do you do periodic oil samples or is this a first sample for the truck?

I would go with the oil cooler also. Usually when it is copper alone, that is first place to look. If you had tin, lead, and other metals higher along with the copper then bearings would be more the culprit. Without knowing the level of copper you mention being high, it is hard to make a real informed decision. Can you attach the oil sample report or give us the numbers on everything listed in the report? Usually if a metal is flagged as high, it has different levels of concern in the report.... level 1 is usually "keep and eye on it", Level 2 is usually "cause for concern", and level 3 is usually "you got serious problems, get it into shop". Need information on what the sample suggested also to make an informed decision.

Looks like you are keeping good track of your oil then. was this a sudden spike in copper level, or has it been progressive? I would be really suspicious of the oil cooler failing
