IF the friggin' scalemaster was doing their job properly they'd have the PrePass system switched to "pass all" as well. So how d'ya know whether he made sure the transponder system is working properly, and they just forgot to turn the stupid sign to "open?" Hmmm? Like I posted earlier... explain that to a LEO with a ticket book and a red PrePass light - you're getting the ticket. If you're operating a transponder equipped truck, you follow the transponder - not the roadside sign.
Pre Pass red light, but station sign said 'closed'

I believe common sense wins this .....Closed means mash that gas and tote that ###
ex...low bridge to the right...gps says turn right....are you gonna say my gps told me to when your LEO is writing you a ticket and waiting on the wrecker
word of the day common sense; the ability to demonstrate good judgement over transponders and computers... (Don't believe me google it)drvrtech77, MackDaddyMark, aiwiron and 3 others Thank this. -
That's the catcher. The red light is at random and the leo is too lazy to turn off prepass when he closes the station to a full ramp. Usually they'll ignore it. Half the time they don't even look at the screen.
But no matter the circumstance if you blow by with a red light it flashes red on the screen and goes into memory.
What happens if at the end of a day a leo reviews the log and sees a few trucks that blew by? He might not remember the circumstance and has the ability to fine the registered owner via mail.
I wouldn't stop with a full ramp if the sign said closed in VA. But that's just me.

silver dollar and ironpony Thank this. -
ًWoodbridge in Virginia is definitely NOT one of those scales, you can be backed out 20miles, they will leave the open sign onrolldice25, tl385 and MackDaddyMark Thank this.

I would agree that if the scale house sign says closed that means closed and I would keep on a truckin. I am not going to pull into a scale house when the sign says closed and then if anyone is there they get suspicious because my dumb butt stop. Never Never.. If they forgot to turn the sign on then that is there fault and they are closed until sign is turned on.
1guy1camera Thanks this. -
I've done this a few times never had an issue.
I've seen it done at a lot of different scales where they will Change the sign to closed and I'll still get a red light. -
The roadside signs are for the folks in trucks without the transponders. If you have a PrePass transponder and it flashes red (no matter what the roadside signs say) you go in. If it flashes green, you bypass. That's the system, and that's what you get when you have a transponder - whether you've driven for 1 year or 100 years.
And yeah, the idiots they hire to be DOT scalehouse LEOs can and do screw-up. -
Not bickering at you but think about it, does Prepass run the scales or the scale master in charge.drvrtech77 and volvodriver01 Thank this.

It's the system you get with the transponder - and the states/LEOs sign up for the system too. The PrePass system is a tool they use just like the roadside sign - PrePass doesn't "run" the scales, the scale master in charge "runs" (as in operates the system) it.
I'm constantly amazed at this notion people have that somehow there is a sinister, evil presence in anything that has a microchip in it - a presence that "runs" things. -
Not my point,
Say you have pre pass and have a load the that scale says you must come in no matter what, yes certain loads are like that. Well no matter what that box in your rig tells you you pull in.
Same thing, scale says closed then it is closed. Prepass has nothing to do with a state scale, it is connivance. So if a scale says closed prepass has no say in it, at all.volvodriver01 Thanks this.
