I started with Digby in 95. After 7 months of starving I paid my student loan off. I tried to get a cash advance so I could buy something to eat and get a pack of cigarettes. I was flat broke. Not even change to buy a hotdog. After dispatch refused I turned the truck around in Knoxville and took the truck back to LaVergne, TN (Nashville) and turned it in. Funny thing was dispatch said I couldn't do that. Watch me!
The next week I got a job with a home town company, Volunteer Trucking. I stayed with them 3 years hauling La-Z-boy and eventually got a carpet hauling gig with them. I worked for them two more times over the years.

I started in 98 with Lisa Motor Lines out of FT Worth. It was a little tight the first 6 months and after that things got a lot better. I made 38K the first year, not too bad for being a new driver. The only problem with the company is they were owned by FFE and as time went on things started to go down hill with them the more FFE took over. I left in 02 and went to work for a small fleet owner that had 32 trucks and stayed there for 1-1/2 before I left the road because of medical problems with my wife.

Started out driving in 1987 for a small Steel hauling outfit(Bower Trucking) near Canton, OHIO. They had 6 trucks and was horribly managed so went out of business 6 months later.

T street when I got back to the Yard on Monday Night as I had to wait til then for a Reload out of there. Well bossman goes Let me see your Toll Tickets for the ENTIRE trip out and Back. He reached into his Pocket pulled out Cash to Cover it and goes Redo your Log book RIGHT now you took 2 and 20 across IN and OH not the Tollroad. So I did as Told. He then went to his Moms desk as he did not Smoke grabbed her Ashtray and Lighter that was always there BURNED the Toll Reciepts and the Log Sheets I had taken out.
Here was the Truck I had taken across on that trip 88 IH 9300 powered by a 444 that he had Overhauled to over 720 HP measured on a Dyno to the Ground mated to a 13 Double Over tranny with a Top gear of .5 to 1 with 3.55 rears in her. Those gears turned 11R24.5 Tires I cruised at 1600 in 11th for 55MPH 1300 in 12th was 60 1500 in 12th was 65 and 1300 was 75 in 13th. I was turning about 1500 in 13th that night. This same truck went from Indy to the PA line in a little over 3.5 hours one night. Myself and a Bunch and I mean a BUNCH of Primes decided we where going to Fly across the Buckeye on 70. There where 26 of us that hit the Line and only 6 made it to the other side in less than 3 hours. We did not Screw around that night and at the Time Prime was capable of running over 80 MPH in their Trucks. -
I started with Schneider. It wasn't that bad...
After a few months, a better deal came along that offered me more money and I could get home almost every night. Been here for almost 15 years. -
