Debating between Roehl & Schneider

    Hello Everyone...

    This post was just a modification from my previous thread "Female WANNABE... debating between Swift and Schneider." I am modifying it to "Debating between Roehl & Schneider." So for some of you probably already read the first post, but for those of you who are just now reading this post.

    Here it is....

    I would like to join the trucking industry... mainly driving OTR. I have ZERO experienced driving big rigs except I drove an LMTV when I was in the Army. I have so much things I'd like to know about the Trucking Industry but to start with... I would like to get some inputs and suggestions which company is good to start with as a newbie in the industry. I've been reading a lot of postings on this website and I think this is a great website! From my previous post "A WANNABE... Debating between Schneider or Swift"... I got a lot of good feedbacks. But I also got the impression that Schneider is better than Swift for a newbie like me and a few responses mentioned that Schneider has a lot of female drivers and trainers.... And I like that! But at the same time, from what I gathered from another forum that Roehl is a great company to work with. So now I'm debating between Schneider and Roehl. Lol. :)

    I was hoping I could get some suggestions from this forum regarding the two companies I had just mentioned and hopefully about other companies too to choose from... bad and good (honest) suggestions please. Any additional information/tips from Talking to a recruiter, Trucking School, Orientations, & Trainings... do's and don't for a newbie like me would be greatly appreciated. :iconbiggrin: Thank you so much!

    You seem too nice of a person to get all dirty out here in trucking. But if you're up to the task, trucking school is basically company-specific. Most companies will only hire you from reputable training organizations. Those range from $4000-$6000. Schneider doesn't train to get your CDL, and neither does Roel. They both train you to their company's standards after you finish one of their respective training institutions. So, I'd advise you to call them first and ask which training schools do they allow for hire since you have no experience.

    After that, then you worry about the next step. If you would like to get company-sponsored training; be wary of scams that train you and don't offer a job. That'll leave you with a $6000 bill with no job. Trucking is far worst these days with all the regulations and cut-back tricks. The good trucking jobs require years of verifiable experience. If you still want to get into trucking, you'll have to pay your dues in the literal and figurative sense.

    Roehl has a training school in Marshfield, WI, its a pretty reasonable program, you can either work for them 120,000 miles and its paid in full or you can pay up front. They also have a program for vets, might look into that as well.

    Thanks, BossOutlaw! As far as being dirty... I think the trucking industry is not to far behind from the Army. Being a female and for my age... I was just worried about the agility test getting into the hiring process. Which company do you work for? If you don't mind me asking.

    If they have a program for Vets... By any chance, do you know if they'll do tuition reimbursement if I use my GI Bill?

    I would suggest just calling a recruiter to find out. I'm not a vet myself, but you can probably find a few under the Roehl Forum.

    If you're looking for a company to "hang your hat" with i'd suggest Schneider, they have a ba zillion ways to go. (as long as you like orange) Dry, Tanker, Flats even reefers and oilfield. Roehl is fast payoff on T/S loan. And swift is not the end of the world either, you gotta start somewhere and where you end up in a couple years is likely to be different company, but if you want to stick around with one company, Schneider has a lot of divisions to bounce around in whilst you find your niche.     Yeah I drive flatbed for them. They have Flats, Curtainsides, Vans and Reefers.
