Do you log a 10 hour break but only stop for 8 hours or close to it?

That's where you log what you are doing and log it as you did it and HOPE the officer (if he pulls you over) UNDERSTANDS. In many cases if you log what you did and make a comment they will understand, however try to plan being held up # least 2-3 hours at any customer (general rule in my humble opinion). Learn to split break and it can be 1 advantage to you being legal in many cases :).

Just my opinion you all :biggrin_25525:

    logsRus,

Appreciate and understand the advice on being prepared. The 1st time I went to McLaine whse. in Contoocook, NH I had 4 hours left on my 14 hr. clock, and a couple on the 11. As it turned out, it was 5+ hours later when m-t.

Thank you for the suggestion on split breaking. I have found grocery warehouses in general to be very challenging in terms of (driver) time management.

If you run out of hours at a shipper/receiver, guess what? by law you cannot move your truck cause you are out of hours. Be polite and they might have a safe place for you to shut down. If you have hours left after a delay at a shipper/receiver, don't try to make it to your "favorite" truck stop only 1.5 hours away. Finally, if you are planning your trips properly, you should pretty much know where you are going to shut down before you start your day. AND, it shouldn't be planned at the 11th or 14th hour because there are ALWAYS delays....whether it is traffic, shippers, receivers or other unforeseen circumstances. If you start your day expecting to have delays, you will have a much more relaxing time when you encounter them. If you don't have any delays, then you are golden.

Gazoo, by law a shipper or receiver can make you leave their property. Try and ask to stay on most wal-mart warehouse, they will tell you to leave.
Shippers and receivers do not care about HOS and most trucking companies don't either.

Yes I have heard it does take longer loading/unloading with grocery and or waiting time. Good luck and learn that split breaking it sounds like you need it :)

Now it doesn't get you out of the time waiting to be loaded/unloaded, but yes it definately will help you see what you could do (split break) so you can get on the road LEGALLY! :yes2557:

    I AGREE WITH YOU!
