He's headed to Ft. Wayne, IN, so I'd guess its Transport America instead of TransAm. Although it can get easy to confuse the two companies when talking to rookies.
Yeah Transport America...I drove for Schneider, kinda a rookie but I bet I can run circles around ya!!! ...in a month I drover 14 states, 7800 miles...
Big deal...in my first month of trucking, I had crossed the country from FL to CA and back, and from TX to MT. Besides, 7800 miles divided by 4 weeks in a month equals 1950 miles per week. Any of us can do that in 39 drive hours (figuring a average of 50mph.) That's what, 3.5 driving shifts? Corypaul75, that ain't even a full time job in this industry... In my first month of trucking (off my trainer's truck and into my own), I pulled approximately 12,800 miles (that would average out to 3200 per week). And that was back in the days of all paper logs, 10 hour drive shifts and 8 hour sleep shifts, and no 14 hour clock to stop me. That was considered low average for the time, too.
Maybe it's because I'm a former Marine Sergeant? And have my head on straight, and am a not one of those "3rd" grade truck drivers...hmm...not that you are...just saying, I've only been out a month but within that month I've seen some "truck drivers" that shouldn't be driving...
