That rear buckplate and rear crossmembers can be changed in pretty short order, you might check the deductable on your insurance, the only thing with that is that the insurance companies never loose, they will just get that back on next years premiums. That isn't the first time this has happened for what ever that is worth, it is like the other guys have said, at least it didn't topple over or hurt any one. Just remember, always block directly below where the weight it positioned, you had the right idea, if you would have just blocked between the ends of the bumper and the rear corners after you blocked up under the bumper, you would have had it beat. Hang in there and chalk that up to the "University of Hard Knocks", (UHK).Last edited by a moderator: May 9, 2015
dannythetrucker Thanks this. -
Not being nasty at all, but you are lucky to be alive. I bet your king pin and 5th wheel may be damaged shifting that much weight onto the back of teh trailer.
Glad you are safe! -
That is a good point aiwiron. While you are hooked up to this trailer, look across the fifthweel between the top of the plate and where the trailer bolster plate sets down on top of the plate, it should still be setting down flat on the plate all the way around. Then when you drop the trailer sight across the bolster plate and make sure that it is still flat. Fifthweels are made to support a load, not so much to suspend a load, check your fifthwheel locking mechanism also.SHC Thanks this.

that's the reason for blocking the DOT bumper, so it doesn't pick up on the fifth wheel, no ? I always block it whenever I load something over 15,000 lbs for that reason.aiwiron and Taildragon Thank this.

Army trailers have a swing down landing gears, seen some on a civilian trailer on the rear. Pretty cool for unloading off the back.
dannythetrucker Thanks this. -
I think it's just a good enough reason for him to go buy a Lowboy
aiwiron Thanks this. -
They keep telling me "less miles, more money". Seems like there's got to be an RGN or 19 axle expandable trailer in my future somewhere......Taildragon Thanks this.
-
Forgot to add to that, a hydraulic neck.dannythetrucker Thanks this.

Want to really make money on a Lowboy go 9 axles on a trailer with a tri axle tractor.
Over 250K in loads are on the boards everyday, the BFI companies cannot touch them.SHC and dannythetrucker Thank this.
