Not the first Transcraft I've seen do that.
dannythetrucker Thanks this. -
What's that 200 weigh anyway ?
-
it was supposed to be 42,000, but it didn't even feel that heavy to me when I was pulling it. I hauled a Komatsu excavator a couple weeks ago that was heavier, better dock on both ends and tracks weren't as far apart though.chalupa Thanks this.

Danny, just glad you're ok.
Hope the fix won't be to bad in the pocket. Just think if you had an alum deck and rear..
Will not say a word more...SHC and dannythetrucker Thank this. -
At our company any step decks that haul equipment like that has the rear axle right at the bumper to prevent this from happening. Even then it's a scary thought, stuff like this belongs on a double drop.
dannythetrucker and passingthru69 Thank this. -
That 200 with wide pads is closer to 46k. I haul them all the time. The 42k they tell you alot of times is the standard ship weight dry and standard stick and pads.
dannythetrucker and chalupa Thank this. -
Yeah! Says guys with a double drop. Glad it worked out as not bad as it could.

When you are unloading an excavator be wary if the dock is lower than your trailer deck. Because the dock was sloped down the track goes out, unsupported, until it reaches the tipping point. When it tips, the full 46k lb weight is on the back inch of your trailer. I am sure this is the moment your trailer was broken.
Taildragon, Grumman and dannythetrucker Thank this. -
You know Chris, that is extremely useful advise. I don't haul wide tracked equipment on my step because I'm afraid of putting too much weight near the outside rails. I really don't know what the trailer can take nor do I want to find out. I prefer the pads to sit on top of the main beams. I do understand that with tracked vehicles the load is more evenly distributed along the contact length of the tracks as opposed to 4 tires (i.e. 45k boom lifts). You highlighted how this event more than likely took place and therefore could prompt others to mitigate any circumstances which would lead to the same results.cpape Thanks this.
